I have no idea what's causing this issue then. Did you try the alternate shell script I posted a bit further up instead of the Perl script?

Hey Patrick,
Yeah...tried that one, too. Alas, I think at this point I'll just stick with Thunderbird's native bouncing icon notification.

But, THANK YOU so much for your persistance in trying to get this to work! You are great.

The Mozilla Suite isn't being maintained anymore though so if you want to keep up to date with security updates, etc. you'll need to use another browser that uses the Gecko rendering engine (unless of course you want to stray away from Mozilla-based browsers entirely)
