Hi all,

I recently purchased the 2020 13" MBP (the 2.0 GHZ and 1 TB version) and want to use it sometimes with an external monitor and keyboard. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good external monitor? I'm looking to use it both for work (looking at documents, word processing) and personal (casual gaming, videos, web browsing). I'd like it to be big enough that I can have both a document and Word open at once. Looking for recommendations around the 28-32" range, since I want a monitor big enough to have multiple things open at once but not so huge it's overwhelming to look at from up close. I don't think I need anything crazy like a 4k monitor or anything, only need decent screen resolution, I won't be doing any video editing or photography or anything.

Thank you!

Given your needs, there are many displays that would work. 4K displays are pretty reasonably priced now. This one is 27” but I think LG also has a 32” version. With 4K you can use a HiDPI (i.e. Retina) scale so that you get additional workspace while still benefiting from the clarity of the higher resolution.

That one would work without any adapters since it has USB-C built in. It’s also a gaming monitor and has HDR, so you can probably find one for cheaper without those features.

A list that may help:
IPS Monitor List: Best AHVA, PLS & IPS LCD Displays

If you want lots of "screen real estate", you might consider a 32" display that is native 1440p (2550x1440). Native pixel size is small enough not to be "blurry", and plenty of room for your documents to be displayed.

Because no scaling is involved, the MBP should handle this without overheating or speeding up its fans.

Thank you! What about this one? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-32-led-4k-uhd-freesync-monitor-black/6051028.p?skuId=6051028

How can I tell if a monitor is Mac-compatible?
That would work. Macs can work with just about any monitor out there. You just need either a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI cable, depending on what ports the monitor has, unless it is also has USB-C support. USB-C monitors can usually charge your Mac, as well. Just look for 60W power delivery for your MacBook Pro.
