Hey guys,

I have been reading a lot of the this forum lately and am trying to get ideas for a home server setup. I would really like to hear your recommendations as you guys are experts at this..

Devices:
MacBook Pro - Mine
MacBook Pro - Roommate #1
Windows laptop - Roommate #2
iPhone 4 - Mine
iPad - Mine
iTouch - Roommate #2
Xbox and PS3

Objectives:
- Being able to share media across all our devices
- Access my Macbook files from my iPhone/iPad remotely (I have seen a lot of VPN and VNC setups here, this the way to go?)

Ideas:
I personally use Google to handle my iCal, Address Book, and Email but have seen a lot of people using their servers. Why?

Recommendations on setups? I was thinking of buying a used Mac Mini and loading SL or SLS on it, but I think SLS would be overkill. Thanks guys.
