2018 MacBook Air $790
2017 MacBook $750
2018 Lenovo i7 $550

Main goal is portability. Power isn’t of utmost importance. Also want it to last a very long time. I like to save $, macOS isn’t of necessity but it is a nice to have. What would you do?

If my options were only those three.... the 2018 Lenovo i7.

If I could add to the list of options, then my choice would be a 2017 Macbook Air i7 for $799.

where are you getting these prices from? And what Lenovo i7 computer are you referring to?

I would avoid any Apple laptops with the troubled "butterfly style" keyboards... they are prone to fail and is expensive to repair out of warranty. To me this alone is not worth buying any of Apple's current line laptops. Very unfortunate. Since you have the Lenovo i7 on the list you should pick this unless you're willing to pick up a 2017 i7 MBA as sracer suggested.
