Recording something playing through iTunes using garage band

i have a 24" imac and i trying to run a 3.5m cable from the headphone output into the mic input in order to record something playing in itunes. I am using garage band to record this.

the reason why i want to do this is to record something playing on the radio in itunes

any reason why this isn't working?

EDIT: Just needed to change the input source in system prefs from inbuilt mic to line in... i knew as soon as i posted this i'd figure it out haha

Hi!

You also might want to take a look at Audio Hijack Pro, which allows you to record sound, playing in any program (including iTunes). So you can get rid of the cable all together.
