I'm not sure if this is an error, since it wasn't mentioned in the Apple event today, however on the information page for the new in-ear headphones under compatibility it lists that remote and microphone functions were limited to certain iPods and they included the iPod touch...

Would there be an authentication chip in the headphones like Apple does with the video cables, or would any microphone work?

Which program would let us record? Also, this might open the door for skype or VOIP (without jailbreaking that is)...

That's an interesting point. It would be cool, but I do not really want to spent 80 bucks on headphones so I can get a mic.
