Sometime in the past 10 mins, textedit crashed and reloaded (without me knowing) and autorecovery did not work - i lost like 10 unsaved documents

i have NO IDEA what happened

Is there some way, simple or complicated of recovering those temporary files?

Let me get this straight: You had TEN OPEN UNSAVED DOCUMENTS?

There's no way that I know of to recover the data. Maybe on ONE document, but not ten.

What would you have done if there was a sudden power outage?

The autosave feature in TextEdit only works on previously created documents. If you open a TextEdit document and start typing something new it will autosave in 30 seconds by default, in the event of TextEdit unexpectedly quitting your document will be saved to the desktop. This will not work on stuff you haven't saved. Sorry.
