Recovering Files (Without a SIM)

I am attempting to recover photos off of an old (like, the original :apple:) iPhone that I haven't touched in years. It has no SIM card and I can't use the SIM from my 4S because they're different sizes. Is there a way I can get into the phone without a SIM card just so I can get the photos off of there? Thanks!
