im trying to recover some documents from a corrupt flash drive - boomerang data recovery pulled a lot of files off but when i try to open them, i get an option to "convert file from".

I've tried the recover text from any file option but most of the documents bring up what looks like a pdf when you open it in word (lots of squares and html formatting).

Does this mean that the docs - mostly word docs - are too corrupt to recover further??

Grateful for any suggestions (apart from keep backups - I do, its not my flash drive!)

I'm running an intel 24" imac, not sure thats relevant though.

Cheers

hi - tried that - get the following

word cannot open this document - the doc might be in use or might not be a valid word document.

the recovered document im trying is definitely a word document.

I have a bad feeling...

If you scroll all the way through those, is any salvagable text at all visible? Can you copy anything and then just clean it up using Find and Replace?
