Apple has a long-standing and well-known partnership with (RED), a charity that raises funds with the aim of eliminating HIV/AIDS in several African countries. Apple sells a variety of (PRODUCT)RED devices, such as the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 13 and the (PRODUCT)RED Apple Watch Series 7.

(RED) today shared a video highlighting its 15-year partnership with Apple, which has raised nearly $270 million through the sale of (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories. Through Apple's donations, (RED) has been able to reach millions of people with education, care, and treatment services.
(RED) and Apple have a shared history in fighting to end HIV/AIDS. As a (RED) partner for 15 years, Apple has raised nearly $270 Million for the Global Fund through the sale of (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories. With COVID threatening to undo the progress made to date in the AIDS fight, Apple has been engaging its customers in the fight against both pandemics year round and during key moments through the App Store, Apple Pay integrations, and employee engagement.
Typically, proceeds from (PRODUCT)RED purchases go to the Global Fund to fight aids, but in 2020 and 2021, Apple redirected 100 percent of eligible proceeds to the Global Fund's COVID-19 support to provide support for health systems in Africa threatened by the pandemic.

Apple's website indicates that the proceeds provided to the Global Fund from (PRODUCT)RED purchases will be split through December 31, 2022. Half will continue to be used to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, and half will go to the fight to end HIV/AIDS.

Cause marketing might lead to donations that would otherwise not be received, but it's still marketing and needs a tad bit more disclosure. I am not sure one should even consider compensated donations real donations. Buy an aftermarket case and donate $45 directly.

Yeah cause they definitely do it to help Africa and not for a nice revenue boost while simply adding () to their existent red color

Agreed. If anybody thinks that RED is anything more than a shiny virtue signal, then they don't know how the world works.
Enter John Wood: ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wood_(activist) )

Sure his experience was at Microsoft, but in this case, is Apple doing anything better? Does anybody actually believe that Apple is sincere about helping the poor, the huddled masses, yearning to breathe free while enslaving child labor to produce the very RED devices sold to promote image?

Oh but don't worry. Apple's factories have anti-suicide nets so workers can't kill themselves from despair.

Disclaimer: I do like the color. If only it weren't so ironically linked to the blood of the workers used to make their devices.

you would think that in 15 years time the totally would be more like 1 Billion dollars.

Given APPLE is a 3 Trillion dollar company

I have no issue whatsoever with the focus of PRODUCT(RED), but I just plain don't get the marketing choice of that name with the parentheses...

This is double win. Apple can use Red for the CSR marketing in western countries, while the color itself is highly popular in Asia. Apple currently is using red iPhones as part of the lunar new year campaign in some Asian markets.

This is how evil Tim Cook is:

SJW CEO Tim Cook loves to virtue signal as much as he can, but only if it doesn't harm the group he cares most about: shareholders.

I'm so tired of the "this is only virtue signaling" comments and the like.

Apple DOESN'T, and never did, have to do this, at all.

It doesn't matter whether it's virtue signaling or not; the program helps.

Period.

I'm of the mind that I'll take ANY win, where I can get it.

Same here. Like the word "woke." They're both smarmy throw away juvenile words uttered to call out perceived hypocrisy while putting on airs of moral superiority taking the high ground.

To be fair, Apple is not in the business of helping people. They’re in the business of making profits and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The gov’t claiming to care about people and wasting trillions of taxpayer dollars OTOH… I say leave it to individuals like John Wood and local non profit organizations to help those in need cos they have and always will do a much better job. If businesses like Apple wants to virtue signal and pitch in, all the merrier.
