It was on last night? Is that a low battery indicator on my iPhone? Not sure what else it could be, it's gone this morning as both devices are charged.

I thought it was a notification indicator.

It means you have an unread notification. Swipe down from the top of the screen and you can see it. You can also turn the dot off in the notification settings on the Apple Watch app.
