I just saw those mock ups on the appleinsder forum and i say that it looks much better than i imagined it to..... Im quite impressed. They will sell millions of them, good for Apple, but better for africa. Red or blue nano, tough decision.......

Because this one you can actually buy - ColorWare do custom colourisation of iPods, computers, accessories, all sorts of things.

You think Mac fanboys are intense, Oprah fangirls are radically intense and a couple of orders of magnitude more numerous. The demographics of the audience tells the story of the "heartstrings" decision to support a charity targeted to women and children.

As for why release it on TV and "risk" a leak (which has happened obviously)? It's simple. The TV audience is vast. The Orpah watchers are MOTIVATED and spenders.

I agree. Oprah is an industry all by herself and if this rumour is true and she tells her audience to go and buy the new RED iPod to help in the fight against AIDS, I'd be fairly confident in predicting that it would be best-selling iPod ever.

No, not like that at all. That one hurts my eyes. I mean there's one on there that's like the one I commented on, but same color clickwheel. Like this:

Except that ColorWare paints the products (AFAIK). A red iPod nano from Apple would be red anodized, not red painted.

I hope people like Red, because this is definitely the iPod to buy... goes to a great cause, and doesn't cost you anything more.
Red's not so bad, but I'm afraid to say that even if all of the money and some went to any charity at all, I'd rather have the pink one.

there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux? does a lot more than the 10 bux you are donating now, so you can justify getting a new ipod. hell i would buy a red ipod just cos of the color i don't see why the cos has to be associated with it, if they're gonna do this they might as well just donate 10% of all ipod sales. at least it does something more than haveing a "show off" recipet for your so called act of charity.

"Hi i'm bono, there's a huge aids problem in africa and people don't pay attention, heres a new ipod"

wtf.

Last I checked, Bono was Irish.

Yeah, I posted that earlier - I want the proper matte anodised finish. But RED, not that trendy pinkish colour that's going around at the moment. Proper, primary RED.

No, this is the Target special edition nano that comes with a Target gift card.

i saw this being filmed while on lunch this afternoon. The GAP that's about a block away from the Apple store was wrapped in a bunch of (RED) garbage too.

Why is U2 so big with iPods anyways? The only group to have their own iPod.

(I don't mean to be disrespectful to the U2 fanboys out there)

Could be because Bono bought Steve Jobs apartment in New York City from him.

Oprah does have a little influence...

Regardless of how you feel about Oprah she does have some clout. She actually got adults to read (remember her book club). In addition she could get lots of her watchers to buy a song on itunes simply by mentioning it on her show. And don't forget that iTunes also sells audiobooks.

One mention on Oprah about how if you buy this song/audiobook in the next week and 10% will go for the AIDS cause could be good for Apple/iTunes.

One last thought....
Oprah + Nike + iTunes (Apple) = lots of Oprah viewers downloading suggested files and then exercising.

Just thinking out loud I guess.

Just make the click wheel black, and you got it...

Just make the click wheel black, and the controls red, and you got yourself the New U2 iPod Nano!

The metallic candy apple red makes it look good...

And maybe they'll add the Mac Pro Mini Tower.....

Only joking.

The ultimate partnership...

Bono, Oprah, GAP, and APPLE...

The world is going to be turned upside down.

Way to display your ignorance, Saladin.

Don't you know that Led Zeppelin never licenses their name and music for anything? Besides Cadillac and the Almost Famous soundtrack.

A lot of charity products COST more--you are simply making a donation yourself--but apparently this is Apple making the donation at no cost to you?

Plus, a red aluminum iPod nano with iPod mini styling is pretty much my dream iPod.

In that case, I was wondering why the 25% negative votes?

I will make a blind guess without reading the thread. "The team who designed the red color should have been working on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro instead, stupid Apple  "

Alright, what is a "bux", "cos", "haveing", and "recipet".

Perhaps you need to enroll in the ""The Derek Zoolander Center For Children Who Can't Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too"

The thing about this is that it allows Bono to use Apple and the iPod to bring further awareness to this cause.

And as far as your comment "there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux?", give me a FU^K1ng break! I can name one american who has donated more money from their pocket this year alone than any other country in the world combined. And that's just one American. And let's not even talk about what percentage of the hard working American's tax dollars goes to foreign aid.

Granted it could be more in some areas (and less in many others), but don't make it look like we Americans are not charitable people.

I apoligize for getting off topic. Whether or not you like U2 /Bono or Apple, I don't see why it's necessary to knock people who are trying to make a difference, no matter how large or small it may be, at least they're trying.

I'm just not understanding two things. One, how is this a negative thing? People are getting money, they would not otherwise get. The other thing I don't get is talking about how apple is only giving 5% and not 10%. Would you rather them give 0% like they currently are? Get off your high horse and stop flaming companies that give money to charities.

I wouldn't want a red clickwheel unless it was metal. Red plastic would not match the rest well.

PS, I wish the nano clickwheels lit up blinding white in the dark like on the ads :)
