This update was fantastic!

It's quite amusing to contrast the reaction in the Reddit community to Alien Blue vs the predictable, and quite honestly tiring, comments on Macrumors.

The version with ads is "temporarily" free?

No, they have made the 2 dollar upgrade to Pro free for 1 week, because they had troubles with transfer of ownership in the app store, hence the release as a new app (even tho is identical) - so previous payers would otherwise have to cough up 2 dollars once again, which is now not the case and as an added bonus new users get the pro version for free :)

Yeah, I use it but that's besides the point. I'm advocating for the users, not myself. The default for everyone who downloads the app is the new UI.

I wonder if reddit is hiring...

So? Many people who want the old UI back will do a simple Google search or hunt in the settings. New UI is perfectly fine for people new to the app, it's sleeker and avoids sub-menus. I just prefer the old one because I've used AB for a while and change is annoying.

Meanwhile, 8 years later, the search function is still the most useless piece of crap ever and the main site's frontpage looks like it was designed in 1999.

Oh, and there is also this.

It's meant to look simple so you can easily access info and subreddits. Make it more confusing and it turns into a hot mess like tumblr, where every 3 months most things are moved and you have no idea where the hell your blogs are or the options are located. Or twitter, where the tweet view is now gigantic and going through a user's tweets now requires double the scrolling and clicking 'tweets and replies' to see ALL their tweets. It's just more work.

Visual bloat is not good. See Macrumors forums? Simple, easy, no bloat.

Bold comment letting people know to not pay attention to me.

This announcement made my web browser snappier.

installing this ****** up my iphone 6 plus wont stop crashing now

$20 says they'll add ads to the app within the next year.

And we won't see the constant updates we're use to. TweetDeck was updated almost weekly until Twitter bought them. Waze was updated almost weekly until Google bought them. Instagram was updated frequently until Facebook bought them. Countless other apps saw development cycles killed as soon as they were bought. As a small developer, they have to work to constantly bring change to their apps to keep people interested and stay ahead of the others. As the official app, they don't have to do a thing to keep innovating.

This app is the reason why I started getting into reddit. I think there's a too few many steps to move around within the app, but it shouldn't be hard to fix.

Great app, and congrats to the developer. It was well worth the $1.99 pro upgrade. Glad to see it is free for everyone for a week.

I've had this on my 6+ for almost a week and it's a good app. I never paid for the upgrade and had thought about it. Now I'm glad I waited. I can't wait for the pro features to show up so I can browse the whole site and the sub-reddits.

What's Reddit?

I think it's like the 4chan... people who have nothing better to do in life but sit around in their basement and plot destruction of all things good.

All I know is I've been on reddit a few times and find it extremely hard to figure out what's going on. There's no way to follow a conversation that I could see. Very poorly designed system.

I find this amazing not because this has anything to do with reddit (it really doesn't—they could have probably used anything from pastebin to battle.net to do this) but because someone actually managed to utilize the crappy search function.

You, sir, win the interwebs! :D
