The platform is based on the premise of the creation and curation of echo-chambers. What is to be expected. Not that the mechanism is limited to that website, all platforms that use discrete algorithmic curation are to blame.

While there eis a lot of nutbags on there, I have also found a lot of solutions to technical issues there too.

This... To me it really is a crap show and there are a lot of echo chambers and the like. I tend to stay away from a vast majority of pages on the site and stick to stuff that I like or stuff that I can possible get help on. But even then, the comment sections can be a little off putting.

I simply join the subreddits that align with my interests and many of you guys are right. There are some folks who do too much with their comments.

I won't join, as it's a blackhole of productivity. Once you get sucked in, you'll spend way too much time there. All I do is lurk in the AITA sub and it has gobbled up hundreds if not thousands of hours of productivity.
It's entertainment in the same sense as: If you slip and fall on ice, that's funny. If I slip and fall on ice, that's tragic. Sometimes the only thing that makes your day better is knowing someone is having a worse day than yours.🙃 Petty, I am.😁

I honestly don't understand the business model.

Revenues is generated by advertising rates determined by installed user base and page views.

Users will stay and engage if the experience is enjoyable.

So why risk that by putting it in the hands of overly sensitive mods?

The engagement metrics must agree with the model.

There are subs with people who have very, very, very strong opinions on things, and I know to stay away from those, and in subs where people are mostly showing off their hoarding of things and otherwise not having much discussion about using the things.

It's fine. I think people are too opinionated about what should and shouldn't go on over there.

reddit is a huge collection of forum. each forum( subreddit) is its own world with rules and group of people that hang in . You can create your iwn subreddit and modify it to your liking(community rules)

pick the right forum (subreddit). I got a lot of help and friendly responses on there. There is a subreddit for all interests , infact multiple subreddit with same interests but the community is different based on each o ones rules

I enjoy reddit because you can join subs that are fairly specific but it's not a place I'd necessarily turn to for advice, but it's a great place to share pictures for enthusiasts
