First, I'm coming from a late 2012 MBP Retina ? and my goodness this base MacBook Air M1 is just glorious in all ways imaginable. I originally ordered a 16/256 model almost 2 weeks ago, but Apple pushed back the shipping time to end of December. My only intensive app I use is really just Lightroom. Which then had me thinking. I was planning on future proofing the MBA for years so I chose 16gb RAM model. Now with the rumored redesign coming in 2021, I decided to just cancel that order and pick up a base model today at Best Buy. Apple Store was sold out haha.

Saved some money and will sell this M1 model once the redesign happens. Anyone else thinking about going base only with a redesign happening soon?

Happy Black Friday to me haha

I went from a 2012 13" rMBP to the base M1 MBA now looking to possibly upgrade in the next couple of years. I don't really care about the design, but I am looking at what Apple can do with the M2 or the M3.

Didnt the air redesign come years after the pro models last time? I wouldnt expect an air redesign for at least 2-3 years personally

Right now the current M1 MacBook Pro 13" is one of the biggest leaps we've been waiting for a change like this

I would choose the 13" option before the redesign

MBP 13” is due for a redesign since the chassis is from 2016.

MBA, not so much, since the chassis is from 2018. The Air chassis is usually on a longer cycle as well. The last chassis iteration went from 2011 to 2017.

A redesign could go either way. Knowing Apple, there’s a 50/50 change the next MacBook gets thinner with a reduced battery.

So the assumption is the redesign is for the MBP only? Interesting, but makes sense if the current model MBA is from 2018.

Will have to switch to MBP again because slimmer bezels and a better webcam will be essential upgrades.

Curious why those would be essential? 720p isn’t great, I know. But it seems it’s good enough for Zoom meetings. For professional use, an external webcam seems like the best option.

Slimmer bezels? Seems more like a nice thing rather than essential.

Maybe essential is a little strong haha, but upgrades to the redesign I would like to see. Just feel it’s time to slim them bezels down some. Doesn’t have to be XPS style.

A 1080p webcam should be there for the price point. Think a 1080p would be a nice touch for the Pro models, maybe not the Air models.

I'm gonna sell it for sure but not next year. In 2 or 3 years. By then it will still be on par with Intel machine and the price should still be good. ?

I feel you to an extent. We have a 10.5” IPad Pro. When they came up with the redesigned 11”, I definitely wished we had that one. Not just cause of the bezels (but also cause of slightly bigger screen, the amazing mics, the cameras, the Face ID - you know, a bunch of stuff), but the new design definitely looks so much more modern!

My 2016 MBP is still working fine so I can wait till the redesigned 2021 MBP shows up. Also I can’t go back to smaller screens now - 15” is my lower limit.

Can we really consider the 2018 a full redesign? It received an updated screen and keyboard, but the main body is barely different than the 2010-2011.

Good point. Regardless, I am definitely curious to see the Apple 2021 revisions. This is why I switched to a base model instead of a massive spec out purchase. Really decent resell value as well.

I wish I had had your patience. I'm on the new M1 MBP and I'm sort of flabbergasted at the fact that it hasn't updated the 5 apps in need of an update. It's been spinning wheels for about an hour now... what gives? Anyone having this issue. If I can't even get this computer to accomplish this simple task it's going back. Really don't understand what's going on with it.

If it's the Apple apps like Pages and iWork, uninstall and reinstall the apps.

I agree 100% and had my early 2013 rMBP fail last month.

Took me about 10 days for the updates to come through.

I'll admit that on my old 2013 MBP I'm not used to updating a darn thing in the last couple of years (especially the software let alone apps) due to not having enough memory to do so... but this is quite ridiculous. I do have to restart so maybe that's the issue? I guess the macOS Big Sur needs an update to 11.0.1 so I'm guessing that's why they aren't updating.

Seriously is is embarrassing that I'm so rusty with updates because of my inability to do so on the laptop I've had for the last 7 years.

I'm also not impressed with the amount of time it's taking for the laptop to charge to full power.

I finally got around to slapping my Tiffany Blue case on this thing and unraveling the power cord. I aim to use it and see if I'm crazy about it before I decide if its a keeper or not.

You would think that a laptop such as this one would* have KNOCKED my socks off after I just described the situation with my old MBP. I love the amount of ports on the my old laptop... not even the burned retina screen bothers me. I hope I fall in love with this thing suddenly. It'll be at least a year before the 14 inch is out... which is really what my heart desires.

Yep it's just pages, numbers, iMovie, GarageBand and keynote. I admitted in my last post I'm awful at keeping things up to date because my 2013 doesn't have enough memory to do so.
