He didn't really. Some people (myself included) can't stand rubber tipped earbuds - it's the reason my wife inherited my AirPod Pros (despite me loving the features) - the weird ultra-enclosed echoey, vibration-y feeling is really uncomfortable.
Completely agree. Keep the silicone for the pro so we have choice. I don’t like the silicone tips at all.

After their lack of appearance at Apple's September event, updated third-generation AirPods can be expected to be unveiled during next week's "Unleashed" Mac-focused event, according to a leaker.

Rumors had initially indicated that the new AirPods would ship alongside the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 announcement last month, but the new earphones failed to materialize. AirPods are best equipped with the iPhone and Apple Watch, adding fuel to speculation their release was somewhat imminent.

Now, as Apple has confirmed its likely last event of the year for this coming Monday, October 18, all the indications suggest that new AirPods will also be announced alongside redesigned MacBook Pros. Weibo leaker @PandaIsBald, which accurately reported the launch of the baseline ninth-generation iPad for Apple's last event, has claimed that alongside "M1X" Macs, the third-generation AirPods with an updated design will also be announced.

The third-generation AirPods will be the first significant design change to the AirPods line since the AirPods Pro in 2019. The new AirPods will replace the existing second-generation AirPods in the line and feature an updated redesign that takes inspiration from the higher-end AirPods Pro, but without "Pro" features like Active Noise Cancelation.

The refreshed AirPods are expected to take design cues from the AirPods Pro and leaked schematics and images but appear to confirm those design changes. However, what remains unclear is whether the new AirPods will feature silicone ear-tips, like the AirPods Pro, or feature the same in-ear design as the first and second-generation AirPods.

Previous reports suggested that Apple's second planned event for the fall would focus on new Macs and iPads. Surprisingly, Apple announced an updated iPad mini and baseline iPad during its September event, leaving the upcoming "Unleashed" event to be wholly focused on the Mac.

The new highly anticipated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros will feature better performance, a new design, and a mini-LED display that could feature ProMotion, allowing for a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Apple is also likely to announce a date for when macOS Monterey will launch to the public.

I would like to grab these as soon as they are launched...waiting since very long time to upgrade my current airpods...I like the design of airpods pro but hate to use as they don't sound better aswell feels like my ears are clogged when using them. silicone tips doesn't work for me so waiting for airpods 3 as they may have similar design with no silicone tips.

So long as they change the materials they make the AirPods Pro I'll be happy. I seem to have an alergic reaction to the existing ones unlike anything I've ever experienced from a product before. UGH. It seems others have as well.

Is the selling point of these going to be mainly their price? Or why wouldn't one always get the Air Pods Pro instead?
Until they are released and we find out, I am confused as well. I think the difference in them is the lack of ANC and they don't have the rubber pieces to seal in your ear.

I have such floppy ears that every ear bud I've tried fell out. Are these wireless ones any better or am I one of the ten percent that really has to get the "pro" or else get plastic surgery on my ears?

noise cancelling would be nice.
but I’ve really wanted the case to have built in air-tag style findmy capability. Doesn’t come up often but being able to track in just a minute if they are in my car, work desk, bedroom, or across the house by meds is very nice. The existing find my just tells me they are “home” and ever since I strapped an air tag to it, saved me some frustration.

I just need them to have at least 2010 noise cancelling for external sounds picked up by the mic. The party on the other end can hear a mouse fart 10 yards from my position and it is very annoying.

I just want a M1X Mac mini that can handle two pro apps open at the same time, without having to resort to swapping with the hard drive, and one that doesn't heat up the whole room. I hope it's not too much to ask.

Personally I don’t see any need in Pro-ish classic shape AirPods. It is already nice product, so I highly recommend to buy one for 150 usd (often even less), while still available.
