To clarify the story, not only has all of Canada received the new Maps update, it looks as though every major city as well as the major highway systems have received Look Around. Yes, there are missing streets/areas, but this is a MASSIVE Look Around update.

EDIT: As Justin mentions on his page, 99% of the population of Canada now has Look Around coverage.

I'm in Canada, I don't really hear people speak English in my day to day life, but I can tell you I've never really heard anyone say "aboot" and "eh".

Where does that stereotype come from?
"Aboot" comes from Newfoundland (because of their accent) and "eh" comes from the prairies I think.

The whole of Canada is pale green. In winter? Where is all the snow?

I guess only regions with permanent ice are labelled white.

Although I do agree the new maps are too green. It looks like the world is one nature park while obviously huge parts are urbanised.

It's not a stereotype. You must live a very sheltered life in Canada if you have never heard "eh" or "aboot". It's just the way Canadians pronounce certain words. Just like Australians and South Africans. It's part of the rich tapestry of life.

Just tried it, in Montreal. I'm really excited, I love the level of details. I am impressed by the Look Around feature, which shows high quality images -- better than Google, I find.

The wife texted me with glee and excitement this morning saying "The Apple Maps just told me to turn left at the light, and right at the stop sign! WOW! So much better! This app is so cool!"

So apparently, the improvements in GPS navigation are quite notable compared to the previous version. 😁

In the UK, when I watch a true crime show from the Americas, I can always tell it's set in Canada if

1. It's freezing cold
2. Someone says hoass every time they mean house.

Could be something to do with that.

hello, is the new update exclusive to the most recent iOS version? If I purposely stick with a previous iOS version, i'm guessing there won't be any update to my apple maps app right? it's not like google maps where the update are done on the App store itself

As long as you are on iOS 13 or later, you will get it.

Just checked Maps in Mojave, looks like it is indeed updated.

Actually looks reasonably up to date in my area now except for the 3d satellite view - which has exactly the same imagery as the day the service launched. The 3d satellite view looks like it dates to spring after the 2010 Olympics, can still see the damage to the parks before they re-did them in the summer.

Why is there a visible seam at the border between Canada and Alaska when no difference in greenery can be seen in satellite view?

Can you screen pic what you are seeing? I see no difference.

It's pretty common in the Prairies although obviously not used in every sentence like the stereotype.

Usually the most noticeable thing for me is they leave Canada Post boxes in the background or you see a Canada Post truck driving past (they're quite unique looking even from a distance). Suites in particular is terrible for doing that. The worst is when the shot goes to their phones and the phone carrier is Rogers, Bell or Telus (they did that in Designated Survivor so many times).

Honestly the thing I hate the most is when they go to so much effort to make the town seem American (i.e replace licence plates, signs etc. ) when it plays no part in the story and no one could care less that it was filmed/set in Calgary or Moose Jaw (or wherever) instead of Fargo or Cincinnati (or wherever).

You my not be older than 30yrs old to hear it even occasionally. Not that it’s a bad thing but you’ll typically hear it with generational hockey fans.

Apparently one of the upgrades in Apple Maps is the ability to read your mind...

So yesterday I used the upgraded AMaps to get home from work. On the way home I decided I should head to the grocery store for a few things before our latest COVID lockdown takes effect this weekend. So I didn't take my usual turn, kept going and by the time I was a couple of KMs from the grocery store, Maps had MOVED MY DESTINATION PIN from my house to the grocery store and was guiding me there.

That's.... freaky.

And it's not like I said this out loud or used Siri to change my destination end. Maps did it all by itself.

Do you have your grocery store saved as one of your favorites?

That would explain it then as Maps tends to default to either "home" or "Work" or other "saved" destinations.

Knowing that you were not heading "Home" as indicated (like taking a turn in a completely different direction) it will suggest another destination and give you the option to select "go"...but will eventually just route there on its own after a few seconds if you don't select "go" yourself.

The automatic suggestions are scary based on the time I leave my house...I didn't realize I was so predictable... ;)
