So Samsung wasn't the only OEM releasing new phones today. Xaiomi have announced the Redmi Note 2.

Seriously offering some exceptional value at low tier pricing.

5.5" 1080p screen
2gb Ram
13mp Camera
3,000mah battery
MicroSD
Adreno 405 GPU
Mediatek Helios 2.2ghz Octocore (Same cpu as the HTC M9+)
16/32gb storage
LTE

And the price? $160/180

Ibuygou the smartphone distributor specialising in selling Chinese phones to Europe have the 32gb for $207

Amazing value coming out of China and hopefully Xaiomi will expand from China & India to offering these devices in Europe and USA without needing to import.

A device that could give the moto g 2015 a run for its money value wise.

How reliable are these brands? Are they able to be rooted and use roms?

I have little experience having used a mi4 with miui6. The global rom which adds full English support and Google playstore / services is released when it launches in India.

As for third party Roms I do not know tbh. I liked MiUi's stock apps though, definetly interested in seeing MiUi 7.

I'd check XDA for rom support.

Last had a Mi Note (the 5.7-inch 3GB/SD 801 phablet) and the super budget 4.7-inch Redmi which was amazingly solid and smooth for 1GB/8GB for the price.

Kingroot and others take care of rooting and there's usually a Google services installer for adding the Play Store.

The Redmi Note 2 is crazy good bang for buck especially the 32gb/2gb/5.5 1080/dual SIM/SDcard/removable battery. I know benchmarks are not everything but the X10 can hit 53k in Antutu and MIUI is a well-supported ROM. Heck it even has PDAF for quick snapping.

£100 / $155 for the 32gb variant is crazy (cheaper if you take 16gb and more so if you just want China Mobile's TDLTE). You can't get a Helio X10 device for anywhere near that - the comparable Meizu MX5 is twice the price.

You can see why Samsung are getting really squeezed with devices like this.

Sorry to drag this up again .. Im a long time iPhone user that dabbles in Android every few years. I recall having the MIUI theme on my S2 and it was gorgeous, and now I've finally found their handsets. The Note Pro looks like an absolute beast of a phone, but I have concerns that they don't yet sell them in Europe/UK (though hopefully they will by the time I'm ready to upgrade) and worry about warranty etc.

Anyway, stunning phones with amazing specs for not a lot of money

Any reviews or news greatly appreciated
