So, I have my IP4 on 5.0 and have been using redsnow to JB for the last few months. I'm very familiar with JBing as I've been doing it for years, but try to stay away from tethered when possible.

Anyway, I'm traveling and brought along my PC labtop to boot in case I had to restart. Seems to me on this JB, after about 4-5 days, apps are very touchy and crash often, and this is remedied by a reboot of the phone.

However, now that I'm on the road in an airport, I restarted the phone and opened redsnow (0.9.9b8) and it wouldn't boot, it stalled on the verifying ISPW step. I had to purchase wifi in the airport (which I hate doing) to get me back up and running.

About 4 days ago I was able to boot tethered in my hotel without any wifi or internet connection. Why did it fail on this step now and force me to connect to internet? Is there anyway I can protect mysefl from having to do this again.

Thanks in advance.

I'm with you! I thought the same.

However like I said it would stall on the step of verifying ispw. I didn't write down the exact verbiage but it said check your Internet connection and said my shsh blobs were corrupted or couldn't be found or some nonsense.

Once I connected to the overpriced and under-signaled wifi, it breezed by that step and worked great.

Well, I noticed in that video he manually selected his ISPW before doing "Just Boot". I never did this step or even actually downloaded the ISPW because I was under the impression I didn't have to due to the fact that I upgraded to 5.0 on the phone through itunes before performing the JB. In the past, I've just opened up redsnow and did the "Just Boot" step (plug in, turn off phone, enter DFU, and let it do its thing)

I'll DL that when I get to a better connection and have it for the future. The version of redsnow I use is noted in my first post.

Perhaps not having the ISPW on the computer and specifying that first was the issue. Is that step not necessary with an internet connection? Just seems weird it restricted me from booting when I did in fact reboot the phone with this same computer a few days ago without any internet.

Just to test out this theory. I turn off wireless on my laptop and see i can boot tethered with Redsn0w. Just to confirm, you can't boot tethered without redsn0w connect it to internet. Redsn0w version I am using is 0.9.9b7.

I learn something new today! :)

Weird, I wouldnt thought that it needed internet to boot tethered either:D

I was thinking the same. So, that the reason I tested to confirm OP and yes, got the same message. It did not even work if I point it at OS5 (wifi off) first to boot tethered.

not that I questioned you but I just had to try too. I can officially this myth is confirmed.

Well I'm glad we all learnt something today. But I gotta say this kinda sucks!

Don't understand why you'd have to access the net for that type of thing. Kinda messes up my plans too as I had planned to wireless tether most of my Internet connectivity from the phone.

Maybe somebody can share the why behind it and perhaps a solution to JB without the net.

Well I guess the core of my issue now is having to restart the dang phone so much. Anybody else running this JB notice that apps are touchy and crash easily after 4-5 days of heavy use? CMDA ip4.

Download the ipsw
redsnow
extras
select ipsw
now select the ipsw you are using (point to 5.0 if you have os 5.0, point to 5.0.1 for 5.0 using redsnoe 0.9.9.b8)

get your phone in dfu mode and simply wait

:apple: viola! boot tethered without internet ;)

tried ad test on ios 5.0.1 iphone 4 32gb black

You are a genius, sir.

does a regular jailbreak require a internet connection?

Did you just read this thread? The issue was that we had problems JBing without an internet connection but ... once you know what to do, you do NOT need an internet connection assuming you have the IPSW files and JB tool (RS, SB, etc)
