I constantly accidentally hit the trackpad since I like having the Tap to Click option turned on. I've read that one can put electric tape on the trackpad to avoid registering.

I'm at this level of frustration myself. Have you tried it? Did it work? I'm trying it with tap to click turned off and I found it's actually a worse experience because it now will double click, right click, unclick, or freeze when I'm trying to drag things. It's also made it hard for me to use gestures that I use as shortcuts because it'll cause gestures to misfire and I'll trigger the enter key or esc key when I'm trying to select something.

I'm ok with the laptop other than the cost of it, but I hate the trackpad. I don't see the point of having a trackpad this insanely large.

I'm on the verge of cutting out some type of trackpad cover to make a thick border. May have to use two or more to insulate the trackpad. Just updated to a 2018 15" and it's just annoying the hell out of me, not only typing, but also random jumping even when I'm fairly certain I'm avoiding the trackpad....apparently I'm not avoiding enough of it, but how to do so when it's just so damn HUGE!!! Using my 2008 & 2012 is far more pleasurable, including the keyboard. Really?! Ugh. I do also have the option of using my Bluetooth keyboard & trackpad, but don't want to have to carry those everywhere I go!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASSSSE SOMEONE MAKE A TRACKPAD BORDER THAT INSULATES & LOOKS NICE...I'm sure many would pay the premium!

I have to say, as an owner of the 2018 MBP, I really do not like the ginormous size of the trackpad. Perhaps it something other like and fully use, but for me, its too big

I also find the large trackpad too big (and I have tap to click turned-on because clicking is clunky) - but I have read that ergonomically one shouldn't rest palms on the "palm rest"/ trackpad area - instead raise the seating position and approach the keyboard as if typing on a piano (wrists straight, not bent).
I know, I know - "you're using it wrong" argument - but I will say that all those bad ergonomic habits that fell into in my 20s is coming back to haunt to haunt me a decade or two later...

I'm with y'all here: I would be satisfied with a third-party software solution or Trackpad System Preferences option to define the x,y coordinates of "active area" on this ridiculously huge trackpad.

I thinks it's great that Apple provides such a big trackpad for those who want/need it, but such a change shouldn't come at a price for those of us who are _hindered_ by it.

Here's my (somewhat related) rant on losing that precious ESC key as well as this troublesome trackpad issue. Where is it best to post to get some eyeballs of people who can come up with clever solutions to overcome Apple's new design flaws?

I had to dig up this old thread because I'm enraged.

How many times does my crap need to get erased or messed up? I work for a small software company. Writing emails, SQL statements, reviewing code, and accidentally screwing things up is an absolute pain in the ass.

not to mention how sensitive the Touch Bar is. At this point the Touch Bar and the track pad is a huge pain.

The Touch Bar can be resolved if they find some way to make the buttons less sensitive so that it only reacts to an intended touch.

Yep, I feel you. What I've done to date (and it might be in one of those two links I shared in my original reply before yours) was to disable trackpad tap (has to be "pressed" now -- it's not as huge a pain as it was a ding to how cool it used to be to just tap), and I've added a plugin that makes the screen flash and issues the trackpad haptic click sound/feel whenever I touch the soft ESC key on Touchbar. The latter has helped train me (the user) to know when I've hit it and not to hover my finger over ESC anymore, and the former has helped to no longer accidentally fat-tap the trackpad and let Loki loose on my world.

[sarcasm]By disabling and circumventing Macbooks improvements, I have been able to fall back a more reliable dev workflow[/sarcasm]

I recently got a new MBP and it's my first time using the huge trackpad.

I actually love it. I haven't had in issues with palm rejection. Maybe once? If even. But it's nice.

I have a new (2 weeks) MBP 2019 16", replacing MBP 2013 15"... Like some on the post, I am struggling with palm rejection and tap to click. In just 2 weeks, I have already deleted work product and e-mails accidentally (multiple times) - and am constantly having issues with repositioning mouse / cursor. Wondering if anyone has found a solution (attractive/comfortable aftermarket cover to reduce size - or software solution to reduce the usable size of the trackpad). Clearly many love the large trackpad or are willing to disable tap to click to avoid; so far not me :). At the moment I'm actually considering these to cover parts of the trackpad -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMJ1S8A/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A2DYI0TZHMIXXX&psc=1
