The only use case for Siri is probably driving.

I have used Siri when driving. It/she is fairly accurate to read and send text messages using no hands. Often my text message will start with...Siri is tying this for me.... This alerts the user to try to figure out the correct word from any typos. This way I do not have to read what is typed from the dictation.

Siri

Siri is pure crap. Whenever my grandson is over we play around with Siri. It never understands what I am asking for. For a real gem, use Google voice. It immediately gives me the answer I am looking for. Google is genius. ;)

I hate Siri and turn it off. It's so much slower to use than just performing the task myself as manually I get it right every single time. The only use case for Siri is probably driving.

Eh? It's much quicker to use Siri to set an alarm at night, or a timer while I'm cooking with messy hands. While I'm getting ready in the morning I often ask what the temperature is, seeing as Apple decided to take that out of the notification centre (I know it sometimes says the current temperature but not always). I've learnt to just enunciate properly and it understands me fine. I've even used Siri to tell me how many episodes of Star Trek: Voyager there are, what calories are in some foods, frankly loads of really useful things.

I don't understand the point of turning it off either unless you're always holding down the home button for fun.

Apple should buy Nintendo and merge it with Apple TV as a universal console. Nintendo is a known 'family console' after all and would, in my personal opinion, fit perfectly to Apple's living room entertainment.

Then again, my gut feeling tells me it'll never happen

I've been saying and thinking the same thing for years.
Seems like a good fit to me.

Take the current remote, add a mic and Bluetooth, and you've got a great Siri remote. Of course, the iPhone Remote app should send voice as well. these are much more likely than a mic on the new device, and may let older devices work as we'll.

Apple has bought companies before, but usually very small companies. Buying Nintendo I think would be a problem, especially from a corporate culture perspective. Having said that, Apple does seem (based on rumors) to be headed towards a device that would allow game playing and movie watching in the livng room. So it does seem that the two will compete.

My crystal ball (which is often dirty and clouded, so what the hell do I know) tells me that Apple will put out a new device that will allow you to store apps on the device which mean more than the RAM currently in the ATV -- something like the iphone. This means that you will be able to buy 8, 16, 32, etc gig configurations. they will continue to improve the MFi to get controllers for the games. I would not see a big investment in remotes when the iphone app works great. Since they bought the Kinetic company some thing will come of that as well. Of course siri integration makes sense. But the touch ID is not something I see happening here of course.

Okay, time to go clean my crystal ball :D

Farmer Ted:
"Siri, I need a program on home grown corn"

(later)

TV Anchorman:
"Corn estimates are less than expected as Farmer Ted was caught watching films of questionable content."

On the xbox one, they have voice recognition, but they also frontload it with a massive database of film, television, music and game names which take precedent over the local language algorithm.

Seems like a pretty simple idea they could borrow from microsoft to make Siri work better for media purposes.

It will be most probably similar to Amazon's FireTV Voice search. Only through the iPhone.

I think it would be on the remote which then would actually be similar to Amazon's voice search.

As long as the third-generation Apple TV supports it, I'd be a happy chap :)

Or when you're in a hurry and can't really dial the number while you're walking (to tell someone that you're arriving late).

Obviously Siri isn't as useful if you just ask 'what's the weather' when you're right next to a window, but there are definitely useful uses for Siri.

Siri, play the latest episode of the Walking Dead.

"Sorry, I can find a show called Wrouton Ted. Would you like me to search the internet?"

Thank you ! That's exactly how Siri works

It's terrible.

Remember when people were so lame and getting excited to ask Siri stupid questions?

Ha Siri is Sooo funny!

Shut up!!!!!! Siri you are terrible at speech recognition.

"Sorry I don't understand that."

I want Apple TV to replace my Timewarner cable box. Ideally I'd like to be able to watch all my paid for cable channels through it. Current solution is to connect slingbox to cablebox, slingbox to iPad, iPad via Airplay to Apple TV. All just to get cable TV from cable box on first floor to TV on second floor. It is a pathetic work around solution.

It won't

Remember when apple didn't push Siri to the iPhone 4 at first but needed it as a marketing tool to sell the iPhone 4S?

Wow you still pay for cable?

Cut the cord man

Woohoo!

We have three Apple TV's-seems like we'll add a fourth. Voice input would be a great addition.

If Siri is available for Apple TV it certainly would need new hardware.
the current Apple TV doesn't have microphone built in.

----

Curious to see how Apple could implement the microphone in Apple TV, it will need to 'zoom' mic if the user is far away from the hardware.

I highly doubt there would be a microphone on the Apple TV. Most people store it in an entertainment cabinet behind a glass door.

I'm going to take a guess that it will be part of the 'Remote' app on the iPhone/iPad and maybe for the rumored 'iwatch'.

This will enable all 1st-3rd gen aTV's to work with it.

No doubt it would, but you think apple is Jong to update the "ancient AppleTV 1"? :/

I highly doubt it will. Most likely there will be a microphone in the new remote like the FireTV. That plus adding a siri button in the Remote app (But again, they will only support it on the new model to get people to upgrade.)

If it can search everything - my iTunes library, Netflix, Hulu, etc. that would be awesome. FireTV searches quite a bit but it doesn't search netflix yet.

Right now my AppleTV is essentially just a wireless display for my Macbook/iPhone/iPad. I use the PS4 for netflix as it has 1080P (I still have a 2nd gen Apple TV.) It works great for that purpose, but I would much rather it take on all media roles rather than just being an Airplay receiver.
