Hey there; just wondering if the old iMac is still going strong, or has the graphics card conked out yet?

Cheers,

Hi,
As far as I'm aware yes. I was using it regularly until about 3 months ago, then decided to sell. Told the buyer the work I'd performed and then we tested the iMac satisfactorily together. I mentioned that I couldn't give any guarantee on prolonged operation but said if it did prove troublesome to give me a call. I've heard nothing since so I presume it's still functioning well.
For others reading this for the first time, to extend the life I would stress the importance of keeping to the tips mentioned in posts #7 and #21 especially ensuring cleaning of all fans, and removing the HDD and installing an SSD in it's place.

Will be attempting a hairdryer bake and will post results here soon, just for giggles.

Ladies and gentlemen, succesfully reflowed this GPU with only a hairdryer. Heated it up about 3 minutes, close range (about 1-2 inches) and it's working. Will try to remember to write an update here once it dies again.

I baked my hd4850 by an airfryer this second time and it worked like a charm.🥳.
I’m considering to upgrade 2gb gpu but it’s prize hold me back as it was very expensive in my country.

That's awesome @CooperBox. Glad you did not let the nay sayers stop you and look at the additional life you've gotten. I too did not listen and reflowed the overheating GPU in my 06 24" intel c2d Imac in my free to me spare CL toaster oven I've had forever (no worries folks, I don't use it for food :D). Anyhow I got over 4 additional years of normal full on use before it died for good. I have since replaced with a new used functioning gpu but back when I did the reflow, the Imac was my DD rig and I didnt have the money to buy a replacement gpu let alone a new mac.

Regardless, very cool that the reflow is going strong years after your repair. 👍

Kudos to you too from saving your iMac from the dumpster and giving it a few more very useful years service. Unfortunately on this forum I've read some who are far too quick to demoralize others with snide remarks similar to, "It's time to move on and trash the iMac, it's way past it's useful life".
If I'd listened to similar comments I would have been disheartened, trashed several iMacs and in doing so prevented family and friends from discovering the 'Mac experience' and having several enjoyable years use.
Having said that I'm not too naive to believe that these iMacs have an endless life span. "Why euthanize your granny whilst she is still capable of thinking, speaking and just needs a bit of special loving care....." ;)
