i have a 27 inch imac which is running win xp pro compelety, it sounded like a good idea at the time! but now i want to go back to Mac only. how do i format and reinstall the OS? I tried putting in the OS and holding the C key down but it still boots into windows.

YOU MIGHT NEED TO NOW:
when i installed WINDOWS i did it by formatting the imac to NTFS which loses the mac OS (no bootcamp - my mistake)

cheers

Hi zoik,

Boot from your OS dvd and reformat/reinstall it to the hardrive. (hold the C key to boot from the dvd).

in dire cases like this you may need a wired keyboard to enable the efi to see the key press

moral always keep a wired mouse and key board 😀

Do you have another computer? If you have u could conect to your Mac and erase the drive. That way when you switch it on it will look for a bootable drive... the only one them being your optical drive.

Just wondering.... Why did you install Windows without OSX on your 27" iMac? seems a bit suicidal.

I just wanted to say that if you want to read and write to ntfs partitions using a mac then install NTFS-3G for mac and you’ll be able to do it.

That's not what the OP is asking for; he has an iMac that he reformatted to ntfs to install windows. He is trying to re-install osx, not read ntfs via osx.
