Hey Guys,

I'm trying to reformat my imac, but each time I begin rebooting the computer and holding down onto C, the computer doesn't recognize the CD. I currently have a MAC OS 10.4. Are there any other ways of reformatting?

Thanks,

R89

Have you tried holding down the OPTION/ALT key during startup and get to the boot selector screen and seen, if the CD/DVD shows up there? If it shows up, just select it and press ENTER and see if that works.

It should look like this, but only with one HDD icon and with one optical medium icon.

I've tried holding down the option key but only the Mac HD shows up.

What happens if you insert the CD/DVD into the iMac while Mac OS X is running? Can you start the installation from there? Can you see the CD/DVD in System Preferences > Startup Disk?

I click on the logo to get the installation started but nothing happens and I don't see the CD/DVD in the startup disk. I see "Network Start Up" and "Mac OS X 10.4.11 on Macintosh HD"

Is there any way of replacing the CD or should I buy a newer OS?

If it is an x86 (Intel) iMac, you can get Snow Leopard for 29USD.

If it is a PPC iMac, you may be able to get replacement restore DVDs from Apple for about 15/30/50 USD.
