reformatting powerbook? losing app registration?

Things are running peculiarly slow on my powerbook.
I was curious if I reformat will things run quicker?
I have not done so since purchased 3 years ago.
I have plenty of free space on the hd and don't think that is the issue.
Also, will I have any issues with my apps registration?
I do not have the info any more and would be a huge loss.

apps that require a serial will have to be reinstalled and registered. If you have the serial, reregistering should not be a problem. If you dont, when you run the installer disks, some may be reduced to limited functionality or demo without a serial. In particular, what apps?

They are adobe apps. Will the speed issue be resolved?
