reformatting the MBA thumb drive ?

but any trick to reformat the read-only MBA thumb drive (reinstall usb drive) provided with the MBA ?

Still a no-go when takes past threads (dozens, maybe hundreds) into account. Why would you do it anyway? What if you need to use it for its purpose?

a friend of mine gave me his and the reinstall drive is no more needed

but its size is so great and i would like to re-use it 🙂

Okay. I hope your friend does never need it (which will be the case if he did a proper backup of it).
As to the formatting, it is currently not possible.

i saw someone today who has one, the person told me that there is a trick by using windows and but didn't have time to explain me how

I have used it at least 10 times now and it works great for me. Are you running it as Administrator or just a user?

i've just retried again,

now the thumb drive is not even recognized on the mac 😡
