I notice that the Belkin Apple TV 4K HDMI lead now says '8K' in its description...
The time that it was last used is likely more important, and with the new iPad still using an A10, the current Apple TV should still work for many years.Apple will dump support for a given CPU 5-6 years after it's first used. That means it probably only has 2-3 years left.
I fully agree, but with the "new" entry-level iPad again using the A10 there doesn't seem to be much hope for the Apple TV and its A10X to receive an upgrade.I’d love refreshed and more powerful Apple TV hardware, especially with Apple Arcade’s imminent tvOS launch. Apple TV 4K is currently one of Apple’s oldest products, having been on sale for 739 days, and 150 days beyond its average product cycle time. The Siri Remote could also use a serious design re-think. With Apple Arcade, tvOS 13’s PS4 and XBox controller support and the launch of Apple TV+, now would seem to be the right time for a full refresh.

It should be, but isn't.
To date, most go 5 years, with a very few getting 6. Nothing past that, and much less than 5 on older hardware.
People still use the original Apple TV, so what are you talking about, you are making no sense

I get the impression that it's going to have a 'quiet update' on 1st November to tie in with the tv service.
It really does not look as though an event is coming this year.
I hope you’re right!
Ugh, I’m also waiting on Tivo to hurry up and release AppleTV/Roku/Firetv programs, like they announced in JANUARY and were supposedly releasing q3.
and My Disney+ subscription starts soon.
man, everyone hurry up and release things 😂

I hope that is true. It seemed REALLY odd to me that they would launch a gaming platform without updating. I thought for sure they would do it then.
Damn, looks like the chances for a new Apple TV this fall are getting slimmer. I was so ready to upgrade from my ATV3, and to be honest I fully expected an Update for the launch of Apple Arcade and Apple TV+. Even a bundle with a controller and a year of Arcade or something would have been a nice touch, but seems like Apple doesn't care.
AV1 Is a good point. I still think Apple is going to want to come out with hardware that’s at least somewhat competitive with current/future consoles. The current Apple TV 4K is so good for about every other application. I just hope with the upgrades comes a better more integrated Siri experience. They definitely care about the Apple TV - chances are that something is holding up the process and they want to get it 100% right! It's just possible that they are waiting for AV1 hardware? Don't forget YouTube will be using this for its 4K along with Netflix. Plus of course HDMI 2.1 is needed for the next gen Apple TV with maybe 120 fps for gaming and the UI. Also WiFi6.
It's just possible that one of these necessities is holding the process up. If Apple were to release an update now without say AV1 compatibility or the HDMI 2.1 or the upgraded WiFi, by this time next year, it would be out of date and of course many, many people would take to these forums to complain.
Apple never rush a product, so I guess sit tight OR invest in the ATV 4K now and maybe sell it when a new one arrives. The amazing thing about Apple TV is that they do hold their used prices very well!
Plus maybe next year, they'll fit the A13X chip to it as they realise the importance for gaming!!!
