Just found in the iOS settings how to claim your pro-rata (or even full refund) from Apple for MobileMe.
Just apparently got to contact Apple for a full refund within 15 days of an upgrade or within 45 days after a yearly payment. Partial refunds are available where required by law.

I'm waiting to speak to an advisor to make sure the account isn't deleted and will still work okay if transitioned to iCloud.
