I'm finally determined to buy a 15'' one but how long do they usually take to get in the refurbished store? I'd rather pay $2799 for a 1TB but refurbished rather than a brand new.

No way to tell for certain, except that it's probably not going to be in June or July. Can only go by what they've done in the past. If I remember right, it's usually been about 2-4 month gap between release and when they start popping up in the refurbished store.

Its usually 3-4 months, and with a lot of 2016 stock about that may well extend while that is sold off.

Considering those dates, I might just buy a 2016 refurb. Although would love to have the new updates.

Lol haha, I thought maybe a month will be just the time for them.
The last model took several months, you have to remember any returns will first be used for repairs, and then they'll wait for sufficient inventory before selling a portion of them. I think late 2018 is a realistic time frame.

I think you meant 2017 there.

I just bought a 15" tb MacBook Pro refurb for $2039. Is it worth the extra $200 (I get educational discount) to return it and buy a BNIB 2017 Model? I figure the resale value increase due to the new chip set would make it worth it, right?

4-7 months
You can find some 2016 models brand new in stores for less money than refurbs sell for on the Apple site...
