My girlfriend is interested in a refurb 5k iMac (2014 or 2015) but needs a VESA mount version.

Has anyone ever seen those as a refurb? Seems shocking they've never had *any* as seems to be indicated by the Refurb.me team.

This is another bummer move from Apple (making totally separate versions just for VESA mounting).

I've never seen one second hand or refurbished, ever, anywhere.

I'd imagine the vast majority of VESA mounted iMacs go to the buisness community and refurbs aren't something they are generally interested in.

I believe in 2012/2013 apple dropped Vesa compatibility so there's no supported way for Vesa mounts. There are adapter kits out on the net, but they keep the iMac stand on, which some people don't particularly care for.

They still sell them you just have to buy it with the mount from new. If that is what the OP wants it's pretty much their only option short of finding one second hand somewhere.

Thanks for the replies. Total drag about no VESA mount refurbs.

I guess I just figured that eventually some businesses (or whomever else buys VESA mount options) would have some get returned or have things go wrong and cycle them back through Apple, etc.

...would appear not. :-(

They probably get used for parts for their business repair support....

True but a shrewd business decision when most businesses won't ever do anything but buy new every few years.

eh....maybe.

Someone like me (who only buys refurbs/good deals) is not actually buying an iMac as a result though. Always very hard to know what you're missing out on...just no way to really measure and track it.

Sucks in my position.

Such a drag that you can't convert the newer iMacs to VESA with a kit like you could a few years ago. :-(

There are adapters available, the issue is these adapters clamp onto the back if the iMac stand so, it may not be the best visually pleasing look

Yeah. To me that solution sucks. Not the fault of those creating the solutions of course..

I didn't say it was a good solution, but it is a solution, if you need a VESA hookup, you have options.

Yeah. Ok. I get that. Having the stand hanging there is a really yuck solution though.

Anyways. Moving on.

Not really if you want it you'll pony up the money, if you don't then a few bucks lost on a refurb sale where the parts would be much more efficiently used for repairs is not even in apples thoughts.

They are basically doing exactly what I would in their position can't argue with that.

Lmao. I love how you determined that your position is aligned with Apple's and thus it must be "correct" and can't be argued against.

I love forums.

If anybody does ever see refurbished VESA iMacs, please definitely post about it here.

Cheers all.

Everyone judges everyone else by how closely they agree with themselves.

I never said it couldn't be argued against of course it can apple could give more options more control and provide far more flexible systems and make far less money. That would make a small selection of techies the sort that hang around here very happy.

However they've tried that for decades and nearly went under on numerous occasions, personally I would rather a robust rich Apple making great products that I love. But everyone to their own.

Although, as you mentioned, it isn't the most visually pleasing look, for some users the stand might be used as a place to put an external optical drive, or additional disk drives for backup or media.

Just trying to make the best of what it is here ...

I'm 99.99% sure he meant that HE can't argue with that as he said he would do the same.

Great. Got it.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions on the 3rd party VESA mount (not attractive to me).

If anyone ever does comes across actual VESA mount Refurb iMacs, please do post it here.

My guess
Apple does get them but assumes b2b won't want them so converts them to stand before sale. Home vesa is such a small market.

I had a home vesa application and bought that kit. Took forever to get on then a few years later took forever to get off. And the spring was all stretched out!

So now my iMac sort of flops around. Can't say I would do different were I apple.
