I have bought a "refreshed" black Macbook since Sept. 2006. Came in almost excellent condition, no problems at all, i am really glad i saved 10% of the original price and got such a perfect laptop!

I purchased my first refurb ever from Apple in January: a 17" MBP. It ran hot from day one and I ended up returning it instead of trying to get it fixed. It was the first time I'd ever purchased a Mac that didn't work perfectly out-of-the-box and it spooked me into giving up the restock fee post haste.

So i got it, everything is perfect working and cosmetic order EXCEPT for one thing. The part where you press the latch to open the lid. The aluminum is warped an bent out. I'm trying to decide to either return it or just pay to get it fixed, I mean i loose 10% if i return it so why not just put that towards getting a new one. Or is there a cheaper way to fix it (ie take it off and bend it back into place. Its only metal) Anyway there are places in my area that can professionally solve my problem if i decide to go that route. The thing is where to buy a cheap bottom.

Oh and how do I know if I have a draft 'n' card?

Bought a refurb 3.0 mac pro, works and looks perfect. Bought a NEW 23 apple monitor, died two days later.

Well the 800 firewire in the back is not responding. BUT with the applecare, they're sending a tech and reparing it at my house. Got to love the applecare =)

4 computers, and and an ipod through refurb, been happy each and everytime.

UPDATE - they sent the tech guys to fix the 800 firewire. They were about to replace the motherboard and gut my computer; I stop them in action and called apple. The ONLY problem I came across is you have to send the refurb back to apple for an exchange and once they get the old, they'll send you another refurb. That about a week and half to long since I use this computer for income, so I returning the refurb and I bought a new one at the local store for the convenience of just going down the street to fix a problem.

I always buy Refurbs and the great thing about it is I almost always get more RAM and/or a bigger HD than the advertised spec. They arrive like new with the same warranty as new. If anything is wrong, you can get it repaired in no time at all for no charge. Don't accept any obvious flaws and call Applecare for a repair if it needs one.

When I got my Quad G5 last February '06 it was making a racket but it had 2GB of RAM in it. Turned out the water cooler pump was defective. So I got an entirely new processor set with a brand new pump. Since then it's been running 24/7 ultra quiet all the time.

Why did you stop them? I had a motherboard swap fix in my office once and it only took a half hour. I think you goofed not letting them swap out the motherboard.

Honestly I didn't feel comfortable with the guys they sent over, they didn't look to comfortable and too much head scratching on their part. Beside for a computer only 5 days old, hate to see it gutted and HOPE they put back correctly.

Looking at your computer listed, if it was your G5 they swapped out the motherboard, I would of had it done the same, BUT with these Macpro, they're tighter than Oprah in Spandex

Found on more issue the screen dims itself as you use it and you touch nothing. Can i return this in the store? or i have to mail it back throught apple.

I had an iBook I bought back in the day refurb and loved it. Never had a glitch and would never have known it was a refurb unless it came in the brown refurb box. Go for it!
So i'm inches away from getting a refurb mac. I just want to know if anyone here has gotten one and what there experience was, before it do it. Is there anything i should be aware of?

I have bought several refurbs and had no problems what so ever. Would highly rate them. You can save a small fortune.

With all the extra surprises some see, I wonder what total percentage of refurb buyers get something extra than what the specifications listed during the purchase.

I bought my refurb iMac 20" right around Christmas. I saved a bit of money, and it was in perfect condition anyway. I didn't get any goodies though. 😛
