My 30gb ipod gen 5.5 is starting to run out of space. Should I get a refurb 80gb or a new 120gb? I really don't care if genius is not on the refurb. Opinions please!

I just checked Apple's refurb site and they only have the 160GB models for $249. Might as well get a new device for the same price unless you REALLY think you'll use the extra 40GB. You will have an easier time finding accesories and the 120GB is thinner than the 160GB.

However, I would recommend checking out the iPod touch. I know it's less space, but if it's just like the iPhone without the phone, it's SO DARN NICE. But if you just need a player with a #@%tload of storage, go Classic.

In a coffee shop.
I had the OP's problem, in that a 5 Gen 30 GB iPod was slowly dying, and I debated what I should replace it with. Eventually, I ended up with a refurb 80 GB iPod, am very happy with it, and readily recommend it. It has an excellent battery life and easily holds my pretty extensive music collection (and I don't have any videos, so don't need extra space) on it.

Cheers and good luck

I would go with the new 120GB. The 160 is really sluggish. The reason being that it has two hard drives working in unison. The lag with the menu is really annoying.

I would go with the new 120 GB "6.5G" nano, especially if you plan to get Apple's new in-ear earphones (which appears to be finally heading to dealers). Battery life is good, and with 256 kbps variable bit rate encoding you can cram a huge amount of music and audio podcasts into your player. :)

Here is an update...I just bought a new 120gb ipod for $209 USD at Newegg. It's the silver color model. Thanks for your suggestions!
