The only thing that's keeping me from the BlackBook is the keyboard layout - it's just uncomfortable and I can't get used to it - one of my friends in my dorm has a white one and I just don't like it. Notetaking would be a far easier business with one of the aluminum keyboards. It's annoying how the keyboard is like almost recessed into the base of the MacBook.

The keyboards are not aluminium, but really grey coloured plastic ;)

I wonder what the probability of Apple introducing a smaller MacBook Pro is...

No.... really?
perhaps aluminum coated plastic? lol

My suggestion would be to get the 24" imac and then wait a while. It's possible that the price of the curretn macbooks will go down as well as the price of the powerbooks. That means you may be able to get a powerbook or the macbook at a lower price. Or get the new macbook(if any) when it arrives. Is it possible to wait a few weeks? Also I'd suggest getting the white macbook as you're paying more jsut for the color. Thats just my thoughts on the matter.

Possibly none, since the macbook is pretty powerful, an aluminum coated macbook clone sounds interesting, but it sounds like more money with little else, unless of course it has a better graphics card.

i doubt it. it'd be nice, but the way they have the lines, it seems they've (in their minds, anyway) eliminated the need for it. they put in the blackbook for those users that would have gotten the 12" PB (ultraportable but still professional looking).. and there's not such a gap between the performance of the Macbook and the MBP like there was when it was PB vs iBook. When it was that, I'd have never even considered an iBook.. now I have a MB and I'd never consider paying the extra for the MBP.

does anyone know if front row came with the old PowerBook G4's or if it can be installed on them?

it didn't come with them, no. it's for the intels with IR on them. there are hacks to get it installed, but legally, you're not supposed to use it.. thus, you'll have to do your own web-research to find instructions.

Yeah I think I'm going to go for the BlackBook simply because it's got so much more punch for an almost equal price point to the PBook I was looking at. I'm going to wait till the 25th to see if it gets updated or not and if not then I might just go ahead and get one.

Not sure what OP and C2D mean since I'm a newbie but oh well. Anyway, I do not have the 24" iMac yet but plan to get it in the spring of 07, with Leopard. Dual Booting would be nice, but basically the only reason I want it is so I can play RollerCoaster Tycoon again lol. And of course, I'd have that option on the new iMac. I like how the BlackBook has a widescreen which is nice for DVDs. And I believe the battery life is comparable on the two. I wish I could get it for less than $1,199 - especially that refurb one.

OP = Original Poster
C2D = Core 2 Duo = Merom

Hey does anyone know if I will be able to play old Mac games under Rosetta on the new MacBook? I'm specifically talking about Giants: Citizen Kabuto here - one of my favorite Mac games of all time. Any ideas?

I have a 12" Powerbook rev. D with all the hardware specs maxed out. If I could afford it I would trade up to a MacBook. I love my Powerbook but the difference in performance is so great and the price is so much less than what I paid for the PowerBook the the decision makes itself.
The PowerBook was officially outdated the day the Intel switch was annnounced.
That is just my 2 cents worth.

The big advantage to the BlackBook is that extra hard drive space.

I just did a custom lean re-install of OS X on my daughter's new white MacBook 2.0 and found that the 60 GB HD is actually 55.89GB
The lean OS install was just over 10 GB because I kept Comic Life and the games.
So before you start installing any major applications, you've got roughly
44-45 GB HD space available on the stock HD.

If you plan to set up a Windows partition, that's going to need room too.

I would go for no less than an 80-100 GB HD if I had the option.

Yeah, I'm going to get the BlackBook 2.0 with 1GB RAM and 100GB HD

POIFECT! Nyuk Nyuk :D

Since you only have 2 RAM slots,
I would buy the extra RAM 3rd party which gets you started with 1.25 GB.

Apple does recommend running matched equal DIMMS to take advantage of
the system's dual-channel memory architecture, but you'll probably
add another 1 GB DIMM as soon as you get a chance anyway.

RAM prices are TERRIBLE right now with the back to school demand.

Should I get one now or wait and see if they're revised on the 25th?

No one knows, we're all just guessing based on Intel's roadmap.

The MacBook could get an update next week or next month.
It's that iffy.

Apple might bump the MacBooks up to the 2.16 Yonah and only give the MBP's
the Meroms IF the Meroms are running cool enough to meet Apple's thermal
restrictions.

I bought my daughter's Macbook because it's a really nice machine for what she needs and I was in a time crunch for her birthday.

The BlackBook you configured will hold it's value well regardless of any upgrade.
