It's not that unbelievable. I've had my computer for about 3 years, 3 years * 365 days a year = 1095 days. 1194 Cycles / 1095 days = about 1.1 cycles a day average over 3 years. If they're a student or take their computer with them and use it a lot, I'd think it'd be easy to go through a charge or two a day for say the 14 days that they had it.

Regardless, I'd probably take it to Apple and ask for a new battery if you just got it and it had that many cycles on it

True, I admit it's not much by any means. Health fluctuates from 94% to 98% on a daily basis :)

You can also check the battery health in System Info System Report. The 15 in Retina's out of box Full Charge Capacity is 8460 mAh. If it's significantly less than that I'd get it exchanged.

Even so 46 charge cycles can mean a month old machine or a 4 month old machine, you really don't know. I'd inquire about it with Apple in any event.

The current capacity is 8222 mAh, 97%

My rMBP is also at about that level, 98% having 47 battery cycles now and 4 months in.

I'm a little surprised because I bought an Apple certified refurb and the battery came with a grand total of 3 battery cycles. Not sure if the refurbish process has changed or what. I would be disappointed with that tbh.

I have on mine 80 cycles (had 63 when I purchased it used a few months ago) and it has over 98% of health.

it was an interesting experiment but unfortunately my retina MBP is going back. While the screen is nice, the rest of the form factor is too inconvenient for my use. I understand Apple is being ahead of the curve with the thin-ness and lightness and deleting "legacy" ports and DVD - I miss the stuff they took out too much.

After using the retina, 1900x1200 is too small to use on a 15" while 1400x900 is too large. So the optimum resolution is 1680x1050, same as what my MBP is.

You can set a Retina MBP to 1680x1050, but anyway you want the old ports.

I got a refurb 13" rMBP about two months ago and have used it relatively heavily over this period of time. As of today there are 97 battery load cycles and 98% of battery capacity is still there. Looking good if you ask me!
