After an excruciating waiting, I will finally receive my refurb from AT&T.

I intend to unlock it (already have a T-Mobile SIM card) as
soon as checking the phone is fine. I do not want to screw everything
taking unnecessary risks so I decided to ask for reassurance here :

Is there a way to check battery status and the phone itself
without activating it with a 2-year AT&T plan ?

If the prepaid option were widely available I would go for it but that
does not seem to be the case.

Thanks !

During the AT&T activation process, you can put in 999-99-9999 for your Social Security number -- that will make you fail the credit check, thus making you take the pay as you go plan. you could test it out for a month that way..

Thanks. I will try this but many people not only at MR but also on other forums are saying that this trick does not work anymore.
