Late last week, Apple's online store for refurbished products began offering 128 GB fourth-generation iPad models for the first time. Wi-Fi models in black and white are currently being quoted shipping times of 5-7 business days with pricing set at $679, a discount of $120 from brand-new units.

The only cellular model currently available through the refurbished store is the white AT&T model, which carries an identical 5-7 business day shipping estimate and is priced at $789, a $140 discount compared to brand-new pricing.

Apple launched the 128 GB fourth-generation iPad in early February, several months after the release of lower-capacity models that saw updated internals and a move to Apple's new Lightning connector.

The fifth-generation iPad is expected to debut as soon as next month with a redesigned body taking design cues from the iPad mini, giving the full-size iPad a significantly narrower and thinner profile.

No judgment here, just an honest question for those who have the 128GB model: What do you do with this much storage?

I have 32GB, but it's plenty for me since I have iTunes Match. Even if I didn't, 64GB would take care of my needs. I know how to use lots of storage for photos/video/music on a desktop, but I'm curious how you'd fill an iPad with this much data (i.e. are you carrying around a lifetime's worth of photos?).

HD movies, big 1GB+ "animated books" apps (Skulls, March Of The Dinosaurs etc.) and magazine subscriptions like Wired, Empire etc. (300 MB+ per issue) eat up space very quickly.

I have 183 GB of music, and I know people who have more. And iTunes match has it's share of problems, and with all that storage, you can play your music offline.

And also, some people don't have a laptop and use iPad as their main device for apps/music/tv shows/movies/etc.. That could take up hundreds of gigabytes.

I think with an iPad it could be easy to fill it up. HD moves, like the above poster said, huge apps, etc etc. It happens. 128 GB is a bit much for me. 32 GB on my iPad is sometimes just enough but 64GB would be nice.

I don't have an iPad at all, much less a 128GB model, but it's very appealing to me. That much storage would give me enough space for 2-3 seasons of various TV shows (very high-quality files) as well as full backlogs of some of my favorite podcasts. As of now, with a 16GB iPhone, I have to be almost surgical in deciding which episodes to bring with me on the road. I try to not rely on having an internet connection when I'm on the road... local is everything, and 128GB sounds heavenly.

Too bad the price is so steep. When the new iPad is announced and it's time to pull the trigger, I'll probably tell myself to make do with 64GB.

I have 17 terabytes of cat videos that I absolutely MUST carry with me at all times. 128 GB isn't enough for me.

Damn!!!

Why no 128GB Refurbs 6 months ago?!?

I'd snatch one up right now if it wasn't for the fact that the next iterations is figuratively just around the corner.

Probably because first off, the number of 128GB buyers is a very small fraction of iPad buyers, and people who buy 128GB tend to be more serious about their purchases, and aren't casual buyers looking to "get an iPad". Thus, smaller return % and an already smaller buyer pool. Not surprised at all...

I'm saving up to get the 64GB iPhone 5S on contract because I've grown out of the 16GB. My next iPad if I ever get another will be the 128GB model too.

When I shoot video, I usually end up with files as big as 2GB. And when I edit them with iMovie, it's even worse because of the caching it has to do.

You cannot comfortably use a device with only 14GB of internal space when you have multiple needs. I figured that I can stream all my media with QuikIO, and that cuts down my dilemma of not being able to carry all my media with me. However, I have had to lose game progress just because I don't have enough space to take a picture.

Sure, you can just unload your pictures everyday, but that defeats the purpose of having a nice photo roll app.

Greedy Apple's playing cheap as always considering that these 17 TB flash memory chips would probably only cost them ~5 dollars more per device. Not cool!

because the 128Gb version has only been available for 4-5 months. takes time to get stock of returns.

HD videos and large apps/games can slaughter your capacity. Of course, you don't need to have everything with you, but it still feels good to have a good amount of what you like with you when you walk out of the door. I have a 64GB 4s (actual capacity 57GB) and have about 20GB free at the moment. Music is 17GB, apps 9GB, videos 10GB, photos about 1GB. With a iPad, I would upgrade my videos to HD and add a few more. 128GB sounds good to me, the price Apple charges for 128GB, not so nice.

If they weren't announcing the iPad 5 next month, this would be a no brainer purchase for me.

if the base ipad 5 doesn't come with 32GB, i'm buying a refurb 4

don't expect much difference for the next year or two

i just bought an ipad 4 for my 6 year old
the next ipad will be for my 3 year old son and i'll use it as well

the best games are in the 2GB range now per game. add in itunes digital copies of movies and music and that's close to 64GB

First part makes sense. For me, reading these responses makes me realize how rarely I'm away from wifi nowadays. There's enough of my content that's in the cloud that I'm set when I'm online. (BTW, Match is flawless 99% of the time for me.)

Then when I'm offline, for video, I use Watchlater (app), and for offline music I usually have more than enough synced that will tide me over.

As for an iPad being specifically a laptop replacement, I get that. But not having a desktop or laptop that's kind of the 'home base' for everything? Can't fathom that for my situation. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I suppose!

shoot. i missed the news that there are ipads with 128GB. maan.

..but then why no 128gb iphones? waiting for iphone 6 i guess?

Lol. We lavv the internetzz itz ahzymm!! ;) srsly though...i have more than 65gbs of music, and at least 100gb of movies, more than that in tv episodes, got about 16gb of podcasts. Soooo yea I wouldn't mind an iPad with 128gb if I was in the market for one! :)

Tons of media :dunno: movies/tv shows.

I don't own one but I could easily see myself filling it up. HD movies on that screen are pretty slick.

The 128 GB is more usable than most people think. I myself have around 35 GB of music on my 64 GB iPad. That's more than half the space taken with just music and that's not including any Apps(which are just growing in size.)

Obviously if you're someone that wants to keep movies and TV shows, this would be more ideal!

Doesn't sound like too bad of a deal. With the new iPads coming out, it does leave some pause for thought.

I thought that 64g was big enough, until I tried to install the latest update. I had to 'make room' to install it! So much for it being 'big enough'.

I have only 2 or 3 apps on my Touch because it's got *most* of my music on it. 128g of that would be very nice... Tim... For Christmas?
