256GB would be sooooo nice

No judgment here, just an honest question for those who have the 128GB model: What do you do with this much storage?
QUOTE]

I would love to carry my entire music collection with me at all times, but that would take over 100GB.

Currently on my 64GB iPad :
Music 9.5GB
Photos 6.3
Podcasts 2.8
Goodreader 2.5
Movies & TV shows 2.9
Books 1GB
Audiobooks 1GB

The rest is a hodge podge of apps and other media.

The main draw to the larger storage is not having to worry about space or your proximity to internet connectivity. Right now, I can't have the amount of music on my iPad that I would like. I can't put any of my kids movies on the iPad. I have to plan everything and sync more often than I would like. With 128GB (256GB is a nice dream) I can triple up on music. Put on there movies I've been meaning to watch, but can't schedule the time. More pictures. Lots more books.

In short it gives you more freedom. iTunes Match is cool, but I don't want to be at the mercy of a bad wifi connection.

I have 17 terabytes of cat videos that I absolutely MUST carry with me at all times. 128 GB isn't enough for me.

My cat would probably have 20 terabytes of videos of me, and be contributing to the NSA from watching the neighborhood. All he used to do was sit and stare out the window, or stare at the TV. He never went outside though. I can imagine the sights out the window could be terrifying enough...

I've already run into a 1g app! Actually it's just over 1g.

I still don't know why I downloaded it in the first place. Had to whack it to do the iOS 7 update...

If they weren't announcing the iPad 5 next month, this would be a no brainer purchase for me.
If you can get one.
I'm thinking of biting the bullet and jumping on one of these.
I simply don't want to drag either of my laptops with me to NYC next month. And if I have to wait until the last possible minute to pick up the new ipad it will not be feasible to work from it while I'm gone.
Besides, if I end up in "processing" purgatory for one more idevice my head will explode.

Audiophiles would have no problem filling this space up with brazillions of albums.

Also, although this might seem odd, I know of co-workers who went to Europe with their spouse for 3 weeks, took a couple thousand hi-res pictures using their DSLR, and then transferred all of them into the iPad for show-and-tell. A single European vacation... more than 4GB of photos.

Insane, I know. But who are we to judge how people use their iPad space?

October 15th. I have sources.

9to5mac

Someone with sources already mentioned that date. Do your sources know if the mini 2 will get a 128GB version, since we're talking about 128GB capacities.;) I'm ready to get an iPad 5 with 128GB, but if the iPad mini 2 gets a 128GB model...

I only have a 16GB model. But I have a Seagate Wireless Plus (1TB) that handles all of my video and music storage needs. I've even used it on the airplane (shhhh... don't tell) to stream different videos to both of my kids (one on an iPad, the other on an iPod Touch). Software interface is not the greatest, but they are slowly improving it. I just play everything through the browser. Works great!

I have 183 GB of music, and I know people who have more. And iTunes match has it's share of problems, and with all that storage, you can play your music offline.

And also, some people don't have a laptop and use iPad as their main device for apps/music/tv shows/movies/etc.. That could take up hundreds of gigabytes.

I get this and more space will be required over time i hope lots more devices move up in storage

And to think that the original iPhone was 4GB, and the new iOS7 takes up 4GB of space you can see how far things have come

I don't have an iPad at all, much less a 128GB model, but it's very appealing to me. That much storage would give me enough space for 2-3 seasons of various TV shows (very high-quality files) as well as full backlogs of some of my favorite podcasts. As of now, with a 16GB iPhone, I have to be almost surgical in deciding which episodes to bring with me on the road. I try to not rely on having an internet connection when I'm on the road... local is everything, and 128GB sounds heavenly.

Too bad the price is so steep. When the new iPad is announced and it's time to pull the trigger, I'll probably tell myself to make do with 64GB.

Are you frequently on the road, away from home, for weeks at a time, though? Why do you need 3 seasons of a TV show with you all the time? Even if you're away for a week you're not going to get through more than a single season, unless you go away and do nothing but watch Breaking Bad.

Not saying you're definitely not in a situation where you need that much storage, but it seems like a very limited number of people are going to be.

I am on the road very frequently... not for weeks at a time, but often I have to go with little warning. I think about carrying 3 seasons, not because I might watch the entire season, but because I might not know in advance which episodes I would need. Or, I could carry several episodes of many different shows, in case I wake up in the mood for comedy after a phase of watching only drama (or vice versa).

In my current situation, with a 16GB iPhone, I decide exactly what I will need-- no more, no less. It's doable, and I have to admit I'm pretty good at it. I'm just saying it would be nice if choosing video files were something I just didn't have to worry about. Solving that annoyance is worth some money to me... not necessarily the price Apple is asking, but worth something all the same.
