Meanwhile, I was taking a peek at the ZBook 15 G2, but I did not find a QHD+ configuration with FirePro and hard drive.

I should also take a look at the 17 because I guess that with QHD+ it would be interesting.

Um... I'm seeing 2014 13" MBPs in the Refurb store, too...

Article says they're not there yet, but I see thirteen permutations of this model out there currently, all released July 2014.

Very tempting.... I have the cash ready for a new MBP but decided to hold on for the 2015 model.... my 2009 15" still performs decently, and I don't depend on my laptop for work or anything.

And I've been thinking about ditching my iMac for an rMBP for the longest. Sounds like now is the time to give this more serious thought. So much power and portability.

Frankly, this is the right price point for rMBP's to begin with. I felt they were much too high.

Refurbished 2014 15-Inch Retina MacBook Pro Now Available in Apple's Online S...

Oh my sh it , its so cheap

Ordered a base mid-2014 15" rMBP yesterday for $1699, still no shipping notice. Debated on getting a new one using .edu pricing for $200 more, but decided to go refurb. The 2013 model dropped to about $1489, great deal too. Used Discover 5% cashback and 5% Apple discount. If this thing isn't flawless, I'll return it-- will be looking for yellow screen, SSD noise, and flaking screen issues.

The 5% is through Discover's link to online stores. Made sure I went through it to Apple's store.

The way you said it, it sounded like we were getting 5% cashback thru Discover and another 5% off from Apple.
Thanks for the clarification.

How is less RAM, less storage, and less processing power a better deal? A MacBook Pro at that price is a better workstation in just about every way, even if you take away the display/keyboard/trackpad. I'd argue the Mac Pro's GPUs are the only benefit if you have a need for them in your workflow, but those D300s aren't much to brag about.

Don't get me wrong. The Mac Pro is a great machine, but the entry-level model is a terrible value when compared to a MacBook Pro (or iMac) in the same price range.
Not entirely true - with the MBP you risk having a toaster machine after 1-2 years. Each batch of MacBooks have had significant heat dissipation/GPU problems that affected more than 10% of each batch. It's easy to trace back the history starting with ATI failures on the PowerBooks.

Mac Pros are built to last - in theory - much longer than any laptop. The airflow is the prime example of it. They thought it through. This is why I would definitely consider MP a better deal.

I have a number that of Apple products. And currently am very heavily invested in Apple stock. But $2500 for a year and change old refurbed laptop is crazy.

I want to make the switch to a apple laptop soon and get rid of my piece of junk dell. But didn't realize they are still this expensive with refurbed pricing. Maybe they are worth it. Just surprised is all.

I did say the MBP was a better value in "just about every way" ;)

No doubt the Mac Pro has benefits depending on your requirements and workflow. I'd be willing to bet most of those 10% are pushing their laptops pretty hard and would probably be better served by the Mac Pro's better thermal handling.

For most users, I stand by my statement that the MBP is a better value—even with AppleCare added in (which I highly recommend for the reasons you mention).
