Folks, I just ordered a refurbished Airport Extreme (AE), and I have a question about it. I haven't ever bought anything refurbished from Apple, just brand new. My worry is this: since the newest AE was released in June of 2013, is there a chance that I could be getting hardware that has sat for years or that was made years ago? I don't want to get something with a lot of its probable life being diminished. Should I be concerned about this or does Apple go through enough refurbished inventory that this would be a recently manufactured item?

Thanks!

Do not worry as refurbished Apple products are as good as new! You will be amazed at the quality!

I wouldn't worry about it.

I bought a refurbished Airport Extreme and it was the best networking purchase I've ever made. I now get no cutouts when connecting my Samsung TV to streaming sites like ABCView and SBSOnDemand (Australian services). Also works brilliantly with my AppleTV (as one would expect)

Gonna echo the same.

I got a refurbished 802.11ac Airport Extreme in July and it's been the best wireless router I've had. No connection drop outs, streams reliably, and the broadcast range, even 5GHz band, is fantastic. Of course it's stupid easy to setup too. Couldn't be happier.

As far as the refurbished nature goes this is the fourth Apple refurb I've bought and they've all been mint and worked as expected with great longevity.

Generally, Apple refurbished devices go through higher quality control than new devices as they want to ensure they're in perfect working order before they go out the door.

I've had more issues with brand new Apple devices (more iPhones and MacBooks than I can count) than refurbs (zero issues, even with iPhones).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy Apple refurbished again, and most likely will. It's a great way to save money.

Last June I bought my 2nd Mac MINI(Late 2014) along with Apple Care. Also, I have bought from the Apple On-line Store Refurbished Mac Mini(late 2012) with Applecare in August,2013, 3rd Gen. Refurbished Apple TV, Refurbished Time Capsule, Refurbished 2nd Gen.Apple Air Express and all are working A-OK to date!
