What do you guys think of this setup? I was gonna get a 3tb but the pure flash drive sounds great. Also what external drive would you get with this set up?

The lack of the M295X makes the setup somewhat hamstrung.

FYI, there aren't any refurbs with the M295X GPU from what I can see.

What would be the problem with the 290 graphics?

    It would lag.

5120x2880 is a lot of pixels and the M290X isn't really up to the job.

I haven't seen much of this on my M290X. To be fair i've heard lag issues on every model(it's been well documented) which makes this seem that it's software related and not hardware.

Also the M295X does run incredibly hot and it's been well documented from guys who do Apple repairs that they've seen heat as the #1 issue with them down the road.

290X lag, pure BS. I got it and it's purely safari bug. If you use safari with multiple tabs open it will lag.

I use Firefox and no lag...non!

I have no lag with 30 tabs open in Safari on the 295.

Thats not exactly scientific. I've had issues with one tab on Safari on different Macs depending on the actual website.

I'd probably buy it as other than the 295X, it has everything my current 5K iMac has (and I would have preferred to wait for a refurb).

For external drive I use a Drobo 5D for media and a Western Digital 3TB for Time Machine.
