Apple today added several iPad Air 2 models to its online store for refurbished products, marking the first time refurbished versions of the iPad Air 2 have been made available for purchase.

Released in October of 2014, the iPad Air 2 features a slimmer body than the original iPad Air, plus a triple-core A8X processor, an 8-megapixel camera Touch ID, and a gapless display with an anti-reflective screen coating.

Apple is currently offering several refurbished iPad Air 2 models, ranging from the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad Air 2 to the 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Air 2. All models are discounted by 15 to 17 percent, dropping prices by $80 to $160. For the entry-level Wi-Fi only 16GB model, the discount lowers the price to $419 from the original $499 price tag.

That price point beats many sale prices from third-party vendors, and as with all of Apple's refurbished products, the iPad Air 2 models come with a full 1-year warranty, a new battery, and a new outer shell.

Apple's refurbished inventory fluctuates on a regular basis based on available supply, so models that are available today may not be available tomorrow. The refurbished iPad Air 2 models can be purchased immediately from the online store.

(Thanks, Phil!)

Tempting but I think I'll just wait for the iPad mini 4. Don't really need a full sized iPad right now. Worse comes to worst, I can always get a brand new iPad air 2 on Black Friday 2015 for $399.

Oh, before anything else. iPhone 6S is first on my list.

Interesting all these updates coming before WWDC. Makes me wonder if this keynote is just going to focus on OS X and iOS and have absolutely no hardware updates like they've done in the past.

I wonder if they are going to drop the 5th Gen iPod touch and introduce a 6th Gen? (Excites the dozen people who use iPod touches on this forum).

Smart people always buy refurbished Macs, iPads and Apple TVs, and the 'S' model of the iPhones.

Why are there still so many iPad SKU's?

I would have thought that they would EOL the non-Retina Mini, Mini2 and first-gen Air so they could focus on increasing the volume / reducing the costs of the Air2 and Mini3 models... especially if they're planning on a refresh later this year.

I was just looking on there this morning and thinking to myself that I still hadn't seen any iPad Air 2 pop up on there. Prices look pretty good. Tempting to pick one up for my dad for father's day/his birthday next month to replace his 1st Gen.

Sam's Club has them new for about the same price if you have a store local that has them in stock, or online for delivery. I almost ordered one there earlier today, but still haven't pulled the trigger.

Sales happen bi-weekly at various retailers that discount brand new iPads even further than Apple's refurbished store does.

I got an open box iPad Mini 3 for $187 (plus tax) @ Best Buy. It's condition was basically flawless and had 10 months left on the warranty. I think that's what "smart" people do.

Um, no. Smart people hunt for the best deals on all the devices as soon as they can. By following this rule I would just now be buying my Air 2 and I only would have saved $10 off what I paid on Black Friday for it. Instead, I have already gotten a good 5 months use out of my iPad.

I guess I'm not smart. I got my air 2 brand new on Black Friday for $399.

Hehe same! Except I bought the 128GB model so I paid $599. Great deal! Did you order yours from Best Buy?

There's no refurbished iPad Air 2s here in the UK (yet.)

Hopefully they'll drop soon. I prefer the form factor of my iPad Mini 2 (which I'm currently in the process of selling) but the iPad 3 Mini offers nothing that would persuade me to upgrade to it (bar TouchID.)

However the faster processor and 2GB of RAM of the Air 2 is one of the reasons I'd like one of them.

Perhaps they'll introduce a new iPod Touch and an updated AirPort Express on the hardware side. On the software side of things, iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 will hopefully be versions that increase stability and performance.

No. I got it from Walmart. I actually only paid about $250 since I also traded in an iPad 2 when buying it.

I got my iPad Air 2 from Staples a while back for the price of the refurb. Apple is really trying to push these iPads, so I would just want for a sale.

These refurb prices are sad. As other have pointed out, brand new iPad's have gone on sale all year for less. I think Apple is going to have to either release a huge update in October or drop the regular price.

Great point. "Smart" people sit back and wait for that once in a blue moon, not repeatable deal to come along.

Refurbs are fine, but you can often find iPads new on sale for the same price.

I always thought Apple buyers were these rich Americans, turns out they're just poor people waiting for second hand goods, not very hipster like.

Truly smart people make enough money to buy what they want when they want it. ;)

My Original iPad 1 died the other day, might need to jump on this.

I went from iPad 3 to iPad Air and was blown away so you're in for a real treat. It's a huge leap.
