i wouldnt think so, because you'll need to buy a contract with it as well. Maybe they will sell refurbs at stores so you can buy it with a contract as well. With any luck, there will be no need for refurbs

There will definitely be iPhones on the refurb list! With the volume going out, there are sure to be returns!! It seems that it takes about 6 weeks when new computer hardware models are announced before we start to see refurbs. Using that as a guide, that would mean we could start seeing refurbs the middle of August.

For me, this would be perfect: lot's of feedback from users and a reduced price. :D

You mean on the refurb section of Apple's site? Absolutely. If past products are a guide, maybe a couple months out, they'll start showing up.

Yeah. Sure. It'll be $479 for the 4GB and $579 for the 8GB.

You dont sign any contracts when you pick up the iPhone, you just walk in and purchase it, the contract signing starts when you sync it to itunes. You can literally buy an iphone and have it sit on your desk for a month and not be tied to a contract.

I was thinking more like 449 (4GB) and 539 (8GB). Regardless, they are going to fly off the shelves just as fast as the new ones.

Sorry to dredge, but I was wondering about this... right now, the two year contract for the iPhone has essentially nothing to do with purchasing it, in the sense that you can buy it from Apple without any contract, but then you get into a contract as soon as you activate it and pick a plan.

    So...

    1) If and when the refurbs come out, will they require a two year contract also? It seems like they might... if the refurbs were even modestly discounted from new, though, without the need for a contract, now that would be amazing.

    2) If you decide in a month you don't want your iPhone (or in two years), and you pay the contract break if necessary, you can sell your iPhone, right? But from what I understand, that new person will have to sign up for a new two year contract from AT&T starting on the day they activate their used iPhone?

I know this stuff is still being hashed out, but either way, it makes the used market very different from the used market for any other cell phone, locked or unlocked. Even if a cell is locked, if you have service with that company already, you can start using it without a new contract.
