Refurbished iPhones - updated Firmware?

Does anyone know if Apple will update the firmware on the refurbished iPhones now that the new firmware is released? I currently own an iPod touch, but I've been seriously considering an iPhone instead (anyways touch is defective) because of all the other applications. (especially calendar & mail.app) Any ideas on how to determine the firmware I'll be getting? 😕
