The only models currently showing for sale direct from Apple are the 7 and 7+. I'm not familiar with Apple's policy on selling refurbed phones. Are the only refurbs sold always 2 generations old? Is it possible that 8's and 8+'s will be available before next September? I have a feeling the X will never be sold as refurbed but does anyone think that's possible?

I've bought many Apple refurbs in the past, although not an iPhone, and always found them to be exactly like new.

Apple only began selling refurbished iPhones two years ago.

    So far:
    • Refurbished iPhone 6s - available November 2016 (13 months after launch)
    • Refurbished iPhone 7 - available February 2018 (16 months after launch)

Thanks! I guess it's too small a sample size to be certain what models will be available and when. I guess I'll wait until November and see if the 8's and/or X's appear.

All right, all right, all right! I'm really glad I waited. I kept being tempted by the 7+ 128gb for $569 but now I just ordered the 8+ 64gb for only $30 more. I've been satisfied with 64gb for 3 years with my 6+, so the extra 64gb on the 7+ would have been wasted on me. I'm a little surprised that the 7/7+ models were not discounted after they added the 8's.

I'm not a fan of face ID and I prefer the wider phone size and better resolution of the 8+ compared to the Xr, so I'm a very happy camper today.

These just went on sale within the past few hours. I checked this morning and it was still just the 7/7+ models available. I ordered within a minute of learning the 8+ was for sale since I have a feeling these may sell out quickly.

Let us know how much free space is left after a clean install (without your photos & vids in the phone)

I obviously don't have the 8+ yet and my 6+ has many apps, so I can't swear but online I find people saying that after a clean install you should have around 60gb out of 64gb. That sounds a little high but may be correct.

I can only speak for myself when I say that I've been happy with 64gb. I don't take a lot of photos (and move them off the phone afterwards) and I don't store videos, I only stream. If you do take a lot of photos or want to store high quality videos then 64gb will not be enough.

edit: I found this site that says iOS 12 takes up about 4.24gb, so 60gb free sounds about right.

Really mad I bought one used yesterday, this would have been perfect with a new battery and warranty.

The iPhone 8 just now is being offered as a refurbished device off the Apple store, which the iPhone 8 has been available since September 2017, The 2017 X almost likely will be offered as a refurbished device, but its just now been a full year yet since it’s release on November 3, 2017, and it very well could be a refurbished offering in early 2019.

The difference between the 8 and X for refurbs is that the 8 is still being manufactured and sold new. That means continuing returns that can be sold as refurbed. The X is no longer being manufactured, meaning by now there are fewer returns that can be sold again. It's not impossible but unlikely that we'll see the X sold refurbed.

I agree. And even if they sell one I doubt it would be less than 899.

Good point. Being that the iPhone X 2017 model is no longer being manufactured, it very well may not be offered as a refurbished unit, and if it is, I’m sure it will be very limited in quantity, being was only offered in two colors.
