I was browsing around in Apple's refurbished store and noticed that the intel Core 2 Duo cost more than the i7. Curiously I was wondering why. Does anyone know? What am I missing?

Had a higher RRP, simple % discount on the refurb store causes this outcome.

You don't think that this is something that apple would over look. I'm not sure its that simple as apple would notice that their older stock isn't moving. I don't think apple is into losing money by allowing older stock to depreciate while failing to purge stock.

Most likely the C2D had a higher starting price and they haven't discounted it enough yet.

That i7 has a SSD too.

Microcenter is still selling these 17" @ $1599. Amazon still sells them @ $2194.

MacBook Pro 17" MC226LL/A Laptop Computer
    Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor 2.8GHz
    4GB DDR3-1066 SDRAM
    500GB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
SuperDrive Double Layer 8x DVD±RW Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    10/100/1000 Network
    AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Network
    Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
    17" Widescreen Display
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Great deal and brand new in retail box.

    Cheers,

You think that C2D is overpriced, how about this pre-unibody 8600 model currently on the UK refurb store:

I would also point out that the price in US$ is $2,377.87 or Canadian $2,495.20

More chance of biting their own arse than finding some mug to buy that:D
