Were those cases current gen systems? Are the part numbers marked with the FC prefix? Also do the first three digits of the serial number conform with the refurb designators?

The reason I ask is because I know for a fact that if Apple takes too many orders for a particular current gen refurb model, and doesn't have the stock to supply them, they send out a brand new one instead.

Mine is a current gen-17" i5 with AG screen.

Each of mine have come in the refurb box (a mini and soon Mac Pro). If you are looking to get a refurb MBP, I would suggest checking out an applescript that I developed to take the guess work out of when that hard to get item gets put up on the refurb site. It worked for me today (the hexacore sold out in less than 30 minutes)

I bought a refurb 17" MBP with i7.

I had a lot of wi-fi issues and in the end the wi-fi on the machine stopped working after only 5 days!! Apple would not offer a replacement - only a repair - meaning it would be away for an indeterminate period of time - I decided to take a refund! Interestingly when i went into Apple store they told me that they would have swapped the machine immediately for a brand new one if it had been bought new rather than refurb??

So buy with caution - accepting that your service experience may not be the full Apple standard in the event you have any issues??

That's why I bought new.

That is a bit disheartening. I have 4 apple stores in the city I live in. I think I would have taken it to a couple of others to see if anyone would budge before I either refunded or sent it in for repair.
