Possibly this should be on the sticky thread but "news" value might be lost.

I have been watching the Apple UK sore for 6 or 7 weeks now and had seen no refurbished retina iMacs. Today they have appeared, about 4 at a time with list changing presumably following sales, including to me!

Congrats mate. Which one did you choose?

3 TB fusion and 16GB RAM on what was otherwise the previous base retina, viz i5 3.5 and M290X graphics. Would have preferred to spend less and get 8GB RAM with a view to later upgrade. I do want the big fusion, following prolonged agonising re a SSD plus externals instead.

I have requested delivery delay to 12 June, so I might yet be able to make the change to 8 GB. And while I have not been seeking an i7, I would prefer that to the extra RAM if that is the option which pops up.

Dang, that's exactly the one I want! Good luck!

I'm not in the UK, but just ordered a Refurb iMac 5k myself. I grabbed the 4.0Ghz i7, 3TB Fusion, 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M290X model. It should be arriving here on Wednesday and I'm pumped!

Well, not only did my iMac come a day early, it came with the AMD Radeon R9 M295X installed, instead of the M290X that I paid for! I guess time will tell if that is actually a bonus or not. I don't use the computer for gaming, so hopefully I won't experience the high temps and fan noise that some people complain about.

Lucky you. Now I'll be jealous if I do not get a complementary upgrade!

How did you find out about it? Documentation or exploring the iMac?

The box states that it has the M290X, but when I checked the "About this Mac" page to verify my 24GB RAM was showing, my jaw dropped when I read "AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB"! I double checked the box and the displays tab again. Sure enough, mine came with the upgraded graphics processor. I've heard of people getting better machines than they had ordered from the Refurb store, but this time it happened to me!

24GB? You topped up the 16 which you mentioned?

HOLY FISHSTICKS I'M IN THE US, ALSO NOT IN THE UK, BUT I JUST GOT MY REFURB RETINA IMAC EIGHT DAYS AGO AND IT NEVER EVEN OCCURRED TO ME TO CHECK ON THAT BUT SURE ENOUGH, I ORDERED A REFURB WITH THE M290X BUT GOT THE M295X AS WELL!!!!

Well that made my day. That means that after tax, I saved $667 over buying the machine new. I've inspected it and have seen nary a scratch. To be honest, it looks brand-new to me. The only issue I've been having is with the ethernet, which is intermittently cutting out (but oddly enough the wifi has been fine?). I tried buying a new ethernet cord, but the problem persisted. I have a feeling it's a software issue and not a problem with the port on the iMac itself, as I have tried pinging both Google and the router while the connection was timed out, and the pings continued to go through with no decrease in speed at all.

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, I just wanted to thank you for mentioning this, because it never would have even occurred to me to look. In a way, that $667 is basically almost paying for my 32gb RAM upgrade and 1tb external SSD, which is freaking awesome!

I guess the only thing now is… if I ever had to send the machine in for something under warranty, and it ended up being an issue that cannot be repaired, I wonder if they would honor my free upgrade and make sure that the new machine I received was still an M295X, or if I could possibly get a machine with the M290X instead, since that's technically what I "ordered." Hmmm.......

Divergirl, another lucky one. My fingers remained crossed for next Friday.

Here in the UK availability of the refurbished retinas does seem strange. A little flow of models over 2 or 3 days then dried up - none since.

But now there are 5 different retinas there. Availability seems very erratic, but hardly random. Rather curious.
