You haven't registered your iPod on four computers, you've registered your iTunes account on four. Even if you haven't owned four computers (PCs or Macs) this will happen if eg. you let someone else view video or listen to audio you've bought from the iTunes store.

You can deauthorize any particular computer at any time from iTunes running on that computer.

If you no longer have access to a computer you've authorized, you can deauthorize all registered computers from your account profile in iTunes. You can do this only once a year though.

Wirelessly posted (iPod touch: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F137 Safari/525.20)

I didn't know it was only once a year. Why would that be?

I don't know - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420, which describes this, doesn't say why. It may make it harder to pass around DRM'ed tracks, but it's almost as easy to deauthorize computers individually.

I'm maxed a 5 now and really need to authorize my wife's notebook. I gave away 2 computers that I forgot to de-authorize. Now those units are restored / reformatted. I guess I'll have to de-aurthorize all 5 but will this mess up my account username / password / credit card / etc.? Thanks, MB

I may get hated on, but I think we should have the option of paying a one time fee for more authorizations.

    Like 5 bucks or somethin.

No, nothing will be messed up. The next time you try to play any iTunes-purchased tracks or videos, you'll be asked to authorize. That's it.

you need to have all 5 out of 5 already authorized before that option will come up.
