Regret buying your mac???

Hello,

I've been reading the messages on this forum and, what with all the hullabaloo about freezing, would like to know if anybody here who has bought a Mac of any variety regrets their purchase? The reason I ask is because I am contemplating switching over to a Mac and I don't really want to spend a whole lot of money on something that doesn't work properly, know what I mean? So, Any Regrets.....BE HONEST!

I agree with mojopixel. Apple clearly have an issue with this. My iMac is currently being fixed at the Apple store. Even though I have noticed some good screens in various stores, there was one amusing moment when I took mine into the store. When I was explaining what was wrong I pointed out the same yellowing on one of the demonstration models in the store, although not as bad as mine. This was just one of the problems, the backlight bleeding was the worst problem.

Apple have ALWAYS been famous for the quality of their screens and graphics. I certainly believe that if you have invested good money in a top quality machine, then that is what you should get, especially from a company like Apple that prides itself on both its hardware and software.
Like mojopixel says, the more people who point out the problem and refuse to accept anything less than standard Apple quality, the quicker Apple will be to fix it.

For myself, I came to the decision that I was not prepaired to sit working in front of a screen I was not happy with for the next 3 or 4 years.

damn straight! power to the people! let's get Apple back to where it should be 😉

Please tell me you are going to exchange your Mac for one that works properly. If everybody who got a faulty Mac took it back for an exchange then maybe Apple would step on the gas in terms of finding a remedy for this. Just a thought. 🙂

I am on the phone with Applecare right now -- on hold of course. But I am going to take it back. Hopefully the next one will be better. I will keep you posted on my experience. I would like to see if I can get into the store tomorrow (I don't have to work) and I can afford the time to drive there (gas is another thing!).

hmm, an interesting array of answers. It seems to me that buying a consumer mac is a lottery of sorts! 😱 I'm interested to know out of all the people who got faulty imacs, did you get applecare with your mac and was it worth it? 😕

Can't speak for others, but I'll definitely be getting Applecare before the first year is up. £140 and it's basically guaranteed for an extra 2 years, sweet. If anything like the screen goes faulty, it'll pay for itself several times over.

Here in Norway if you don't take out AppleCare it will cost you about £34 just to ring them up after the initial 90 days, that's about 70 dollars. If you actually look at the protection you get for a further two years after the initial one year warrenty, then I believe AppleCare is a wise and reasonable investment.

I had to call AppleCare on the first day I received my computer. After the guy I spoke to had solved my iMac problem, and because we seemed to get on quite well during the conversation, his one bit of advice before he hung up was buy AppleCare, because he said "this is a new iMac model and new models sometimes have problems which are not envisiged before production". Or words to that effect.
