I finally said goodbye to my 7, which I loved dearly, and upgraded to the 11. I’m... kind of regretting it.

Things just look really fuzzy on my screen? I’ve tried several YouTube videos and they all seem to have a noticeable noise in their backgrounds. And Instagram is just a blurry mess most times. I’ve tried a few things on Crunchyroll and Hulu, and it looks better than , but still not as good as my 7.

Am I being crazy? Is this a weird placebo effect I’m having? Do I just need to get adjusted to the larger screen? Or should I just exchange for a Pro or XS?

There’s also a weird dull blueish glow around the edges of the screen. Is this normal?

You could have one that just has a bad screen, it happens. I would suggest taking it back to the place of purchase and have someone take a look at the issues you’ve listed and see if they can do a swap. From what I have seen the 11 is an amazing phone.

Agree with revmacian. The 11 has a better screen in most respects — especially for video. Exchange your 11 for another one and you’ll more than likely be very happy with it. If not, go back to the 7 (or buy an 8 from Apple if you already got rid of your 7).

I upgraded from an iPhone 7, and don't notice much difference between them. My eyes are older though, YMMV.

Agree with revmacian. The 11 does have slightly lower pixel density than the 7, but not enough that most people would notice, and it’s a better screen in most respects — especially for video. Placebo effect.

This has been tossed around so much around MacRumors that a lie became the truth through repetition alone.

The truth of the matter is that the pixel density on the iPhone 11 is EXACTLY THE SAME as on the iPhone 8,7, 6, 5, 4S and 4.

And it remained the same all these years, and was the density chosen for launch, because at regular distances you wouldn’t be able to tell individual pixels apart. That’s also why the pixel density on the MBP and iPads are lower still (because you’re looking at them from a longer distance).

So unless OP’s display has some sort of serious issue (and I would recommend trying other phones at the store as a test), most likely there’s nothing wrong and they’ve been conditioned to think the 11’s display is blurry even though it’s exactly the same in resolution and a lot better in every other way than older iPhones.

@OP, did you upgrade from the 7 or 7 Plus? If it’s the former, it has exactly the same PPI.

It sounds like you have some quality settings which limits the streaming and picture quality which makes everything look worse. I have a hard time seeing a difference with side by side comparison between the XR and other phones

Yep, get the 11 pro much better phone and not much bigger than your 7. I had 8 then Xr last 8 months.

I think you might have a very good vision. I suggest you quit your current job and apply for the one which requires lot of eyesight. If you didn't like my reply click the Like button and an heart emoji.

On cellular? You may have been switched to a plan that requires 480p video throttling, e.g. "stream saver". All the carriers do this in some form. Otherwise they may have defaulted the feature to on when they swapped your sim card.

The screen on the 11 has the same pixel density, all the other specs are superior. Color accuracy, viewing angles, response time, etc. You might have a defective display.

LCD screens have been known to sometimes have a shadow effect around the edges and corners. This is LCD version of the OLED yellowish tint.

I'm assuming you're using the YouTube app correct, not thru Safari? Videos thru Safari will look awful as opposed to the app.

Thanks for all the input, folks. To clarify some things: yes, I was on the YouTube app, and no, I wasn’t on cellular. I was on WiFi and made sure the highest settings were on before testing.

I guess I’ll be going back to the store this weeK.

OP, I think you might want to go to an electronic store and compare your iPhone 11 to the ones at the store. Then you'll have a good idea if the device is faulty.

Try things like loading a white screen and looking at photos. Look at YouTube videos. You're still well within Apple's manufacturers warranty if you see something which makes you feel suspicious.

The 7 is a good phone. The screen is fine on the 11 and very good for LCD but my issue is the camera. Yes it brings out shdows and more detail but as for sharpness and general camera quality compared to older, not that impressed. More hype than actual reality

It’s possible that OP came to the 11 expecting an upgrade in terms of display and is merely disappointed to find its much of the same as the 6/7 other than size.
